This should have been done long ago but its about time we got official mbnw rides insured to protect all the people that are involved with the organization of rides especially now that members are leading the monthly rides. After a lot of searching about the best and easiest way to get ourselves covered seems to be getting mbnw affiliated with the CTC www.ctc.org.uk/desktopdefault.aspx?tabid=5358Please have a look at the link and discuss Its going to cost us £100 to join for the first year then £75 a year after that. One way of raising the cash could be for everyone to pay a quid on every forum ride with anything left over going towards whatever people see fit (only idea could be some trophy's for helmet heads, fall guys etc). I would also like to get us insured straight away (weather it be through the CTC or other means) so perhaps a donation link on the website could be in order so we can get this sorted as soon as possible. Please discuss and come back to me with any ideas

Oggy, It would be best to setup a MBNW paypal account, that way it is easy to work out who has paid and would also work for clothing etc, as long as all payments are made as a personal GIFT then there is no fee and it's easy to withdraw the money to your account to pay the CTC, Endura, Ogwen Valley donation etc. Anyone can pay this way and they don't need a paypal account, it also means that credit cards, debit cards or even Echeques can be used and all transactions are logged and refunds can be given quickly and easily if need be. I think £1 a forum ride is about right £12 per annum with any left over going to a small tin cup as you say, could even have a yearly awards do around Xmas (any excuse for a p*ss up ) Just an Idea ;D

I'm all for making a donation at every froum ride but to be honest I think we're all big enough to go without a small tin cup and put any money over to the OVR or air ambulance- seems insulting not to

Sounds like a good idea , and if I'm reading it right If MBNW affiliate to it then individually Forum members if they wish can pay £12 per year and become individual affiliate members of the CTC and get £10 million pounds personal liability insurance plus other benefits . Winner.

Thirded! A quid per forum ride is a great idea and more than reasonable for the protection it's paying for. I've been absent for more than a few forum rides but am happy to make a donation. I reckon an mbnw paypal account is the way to go too.

[glow=red,2,300] [/glow] Right folks (Oggy) - Fantastic idea. I can't believe we all do this and it's effectively free. However £1 per forum ride is a bit of an ask and would frustrate those who go on forum rides whilst those who don't, get away scot free (pun not intended!) There are currently 557 registered members - asking for a £1 minimum donation from each member would more than cover the CTC fees and any other ad hoc spends required (artwork for forum garb etc) plus any website fees that may well be coming up. It's not a big ask and is much fairer than expecting the forum ride attendees to cough up every time. Well, that's my tuppence worth. For the record I'd happily pay more than £1 minimum

Happy to go along with that, I think a donation to what sally says for the leftover money is the best option, we never klnow when we may need their help.

I would also like to get us insured straight away Is this cos I'm leading the November forum ride!! Seriously though, its probably the time to get this up and running as you never know.................... And even though I've only probably been on about a max of 5 forum rides in the last 2 years, I'd be more than happy to pay up whatever it costs, regardless of attending or not

sounds fair, I would agree with Davy that it makes sense to charge a "flat" fee for using the forum for a period, which would then effectively cover you for as many rides as you wanted to attend, rather than paying per individual ride. Good idea Oggy.

As a non-Forum rider I am willing to pay the flat fee as cover is needed in this sport with its risks etc. and the extended benefits with the CTC are worth it; at present most of us ride uninsured on the roads and their legal system is second to none We shall probably have to have proof of membership to extend our coverage with the CTC

I don't think anyone wants to see compulsory charges being levied, which is why donations were suggested. The forum has a loyal following of those who use it regularly, so I vouch we put our money where our keyboards are and pledge donations to reach the target in a traditional mbnw style list.

I thought we had a paypal account? wasn't there a request for donations a couple of years ago via a paypal account on the web site? For what its worth, I agree that we shouldn't charge new members to join, nor should we charge just the forum rides. Just ask for a donation from people, I bet you'd get way in excess of the tonne required within a day!!

I have only been on a couple of MBNW forum rides but I and I am sure most would be happy to pay £12 a year seems like a bargain to me.

I'm all for making a donation at every froum ride but to be honest I think we're all big enough to go without a small tin cup and put any money over to the OVR or air ambulance- seems insulting not to +1 to the Air Ambulance / Mountain Rescue for an annual donation - you never know when one if us may need them doing this sport. Personally if i knew spare money was going to these charities (preferably via gift aid annually) then i'd be happy to up the monthly forum ride charge to a couple of quid (but maybe that could be voluntary)
