With reference to the thread started by Oggy regarding membership of the CTC.
While down at Brechfa last weekend, I expressed my concern over the thought of collecting money from members for Forum Rides. Although I agree with the idea, and think it is the only solution to the issue of insurance, I was worried about who was going to look after any money that was collected. Although I don’t for one minute think that someone on this forum would deliberately rip each other off, the fact is that as soon as someone is in charge money, then they have to be accountable. Proper records need to be kept of all money collected and all money paid out, and receipts would also be required for any outgoings. This information should be available to any Forum member at any time. Only then would I feel that my money was used for its intended use.
This principle was agreed by Oggy and a number of other forum members who were down for the weekend. The only issue was who that person was going to be.
As I put my concerns over so well, it looks like I have talked myself into a job
Therefore, I have offered to be responsible for all the money collected from forum rides and any donations that people wish to make to the running of the site. As opening a bank account in the name of MBNW has lots of legal implications, requires a committee, dual signatures on cheques and is also liable to tax, etc. I have agreed to do this myself and keep the money separate from my personal account by opening a building society account in my name for MBNW funds only. I know this is not the ideal situation, but under the circumstances feel it is the best way at present.
However, there are a number of issues that need to be clarified first.
1) I am not an accountant by trade, nor do I work in the financial sector. In fact, for those of you who do not know me, I work in manufacturing. However, I do have common sense, something that is sadly lacking these days in the ‘younger’ generation.
2) I do not have a lavish lifestyle that I need to maintain, so therefore have no need to spend your money on personal items. Neither do I have a new bike that needs financing, or a partner that is high maintenance
3) I intend to carry out this role for an initial period of 12 months. After such time, I will see if there is anyone else on the forum who would like to take over the role. If no-one comes forward, and I have not received too much abuse, then I will consider doing the task for another 12 months.
4) Should anyone wish to review the accounts at any time, they will be free to do so without any questions as to why. These will be in the form of a simple spreadsheet that I will create using Microsoft Excell (As that is the program I am familiar with)
5) Should any member have any issues with the role I have offered to undertake, please contact me to express your concern. If you wish to remain anonymous, please PM one of the admin staff, who will pass on your concerns without revealing your identity.
6) I have offered to carry out this role as a favour, not because I want some recognition from it. Having spoken to Oggy on numerous occasions, it is apparent that running the forum is a big task and it can become difficult to keep on top of things while still finding the time to ‘get out and ride’. We have seen members take responsibility for the forum rides, and myself taking this role on. It is hoped that more members will come forward and offer to help with making the forum a better place.
Thanks,
Chris (Tarbo)
