Thanks for tonight Dave, fair play you are off ya head m8, that man hole was bloody tight :) You did get me a bit worried when you said you hadnt brought some of the gear to get us out :o Really weird place, you would never know it was there, amazing brickwork, would be intresting to try and find some more history surrounding the place. Well up for a trip down some of the mines ;)

Heres a few pics :)

The first couple of pictures from Dave are fantastic. As you say, you would never guess that was through that tiny manhole.

Do you need a special permit or license to go down there, or can any Tom, schlong and Harry go if they can gain access ?

My mate asked if I wanted to run a marathon and I said, "No chance."

Then I was told it was for the disabled and blind kids, so I thought, "Sod it. I could win that!"

Depends who owns it. If it's Welsh Water then almost certainly ;) but if it's decommissioned someone else might own it, possibly the council now (especially if it was taken out of service a long time ago). Maybe Mostyn Estates?

If it was a Welsh Water reservoir that was in use, the access would probably have been alarmed and you'd have been greeted by the boys in blue when you came out ;D

Boys, i'm well gutted i had to miss this outing, specially after seeing your pics. That looks a really interesting spot. Count me in on the cave trip, i'm itching to get exploring somewhere derelict again. Found a long cave i'd not discovered before at the back of the bomb store recently. I'm going to recce it soon and if its worth a trip I'll let you know

Must've been one hell of a hole when they dug it out before they built all the arches! The ceiling is arched looking at Oggy's photo from below - can't think of any other way to do it with bricks anyway!

The external walls must be quite hefty to carry the weight of the earth behind them - although having the arches sat on them is a clever bit of design ;D (as long as nobody digs a great big hole in that footpath next to it!)

I'm designing a water tank at the moment in work - I don't think anyone else would be too happy if I changed it from concrete to arched brick though ;)

Very impressive, can't see me going down there though as much as I'd like to see it I sh1t myself if my jumper gets stuck on my head. ;D

It might look like impressive brickwork but you can bet your life the joiners had to make them formers to work to!! ;)
