An awesome days riding today, this is one of my all time favourite mountain bike routes, especially here in north wales.
A route to truely put the mountain back into mountain biking
An 8am start (which may have put people off) saw Rupert join me for a topugh route with plenty of climbing but rewarded with some great descents. The early start was due to the weather, it gave a lovely morning with cloud moving in by lunch time and with a risk of gale force winds!!
The roman road was unusually dry and then the climb up to Drum was very difficult due to the very strong side winds. On the climb I was thinking we weren't going to make the intended route but we knuckled done and got on with it. And surprisingly the wind had died down by the time we slogged it up to Uchaf, bonus
We hit the summits of Drum, Uchaf, Foel Fras, Foel Grach and the big one Carnedd Llewellyn. Once at the summit of Llewellyn (at 11:15am) we saw the forecasted cloud over Snowdon and moving our way, so it was a quick exit were we dropped down to Cwm Eigiau, the off piste way ;D From Cwm Eigiau we dropped again to Coedty, climbed back up to Pen y Gadier and along the tarmac finishing on the brute of a climb back up to the cars for 2:30 ( another bonus for starting early)
A cracking day, thanks to Rupert for coming along, its always nice to have another mtber join the Carnedd Llewellyn group of mtbers
A couple of pics for now and I'll throw the rest on this evening/tomoz
summit of Llewellyn & my long arms!!
some off piste action down to Cwm Eigiau
