What a fantastic weekend. Thanks to Tarbo for posting up and driving, to Iggy and Trace for putting me up in the north wing of their canvas mansion, to Gareth for the lift there and back, although I slept most of the way back to Sandy for accompanying me back with a slightly cut short ride on Sunday, Stuart for pumping up my airbed, Simon and Dave for the lift on Sunday as Gareth was still well wrecked, Phil for transporting my bike, Gwyn for the lube, sorry if that was a bit to much info and Mark for offering to show us around Cannock Chase, i never forget and everyone for the company and a fantastic weekend all around happy days with great friends!! looking forward to the Peaks, no pressure Andy

Thanks all for some fantastic riding. Great to meet up with you after such a long time and be welcomed into the group. Pity about the damp weather on the Sunday but still a great day. Be good to ride with you again soon.

Well that was one of the best weekends I've had in a very long time ;D Some great trails, fantastic company and a night in the pub that won't be forgotten in a hurry, either by us or the owners of the local pub Friday saw four of us tackle 'The Wall', a short 23Km loop which contained a fair bit of climbing but was worth it for the cracking singletrack descents that followed. But not before Iggy and myself had a little play on the FourCross track that was situated on the campsite, although we failed to do it justice When we got back to the site we met Sue and Gareth, got ourselves sorted and made our way to Swansea to watch the Ospreys playing Glasgow Warriors (rugby union to the uninitiated amongst you ) and got back late in the evening to hook up with the others who had stopped at Long Mynd on the way down. Saturday, we tackled 'W2', a 46Km loop incorporating The Wall and Whites Level. Another route with some big climbs, mostly on fireroad but one that was a right bitch straight out of the Afan visitors centre. However, the descent down to the visitor centre must be one of the best singletrack descents in the country. We even bumped into Thistle going in the opposite direction, but as he only had one gear and had only just got upto speed he wasn't going to stop for a chat. He did give a quick nod as he went past though, something I think most of us missed Saturday evening saw us all make our way down the road to the pub where it wasn't long before Gareth was ordering rounds of Jaegerbombs, chatting up the locals and intent on joining the party next door ;D One of the best laughs I've had in ages. Cometh the morning, cometh the hangovers We eventually got out and made our way to the Glyncerrig Trail Centre for a go at The Skyline Trail. However, with all the diversions in place and the awful weather, we cut it short and made our way back to the centre, which was just as well as I don't think anyone had any material left on their brake pads. And with the final two descents still to come it was a gentle pootle down rather than the full on blast it deserved. Overall it was a great weekend, one I'd recommend to anyone wanting somewhere different to ride. The trails are very similar to The Marin and Penmachno, long fireroad climbs with lots of twisty singletrack descents. A big thanks to all that came down for a great weekend of riding and socialising, also thanks to those who were already down there and made the effort to come over and meet us for the riding. Anyway, as if there weren't enough pictures already posted, here's my contribution Our Thursday evening dinner, lovingly prepared by our neighbours Billy no mates campsite Playing on the FourCross track Out on the trail Friday's dinner, a tin of 'Big Soup' Saturday's ride Mid way break at the visitors centre Then the mother of all climbs Saturday's evening entertainment ;D Sunday's ride And finally, my favourite picture from the weekend ;D

Thanks to Chris for organizing another great weekend, AND to every one else for the laughs, banter, piss taking and no big offs, though think some will be a bit sore Good gnarly trails, that has taken its toll on the Five, Afan is as bad as the Peaks for grit, my front brake just made it to the end, A good turn out of Fives ;D Also thanks to the lads who give up their ride to take the pics, it wouldn't be the same without them, And that last pic says it all, Roll on the next time

Thanks Tarbo for organising and everyone else for cracking weekend.
Sampled part of the Long Mynd on way down Friday and will be going back soon to spend a day around there.
Would also recommend Afan to anyone thinking of going...quality trails and plenty of them.
The drive there and back also got me thinking about investigating a weekend around Brecon for next year as only been there once so hopefully another date in diary.
Just a thought but like the forum ride there should be a bi-monthly forum weekend away, say 1st weekend in month. As I said just a thought

Thanks Tarbo and Sandi for throwing their weekend away open to everyone had a good laugh both on and especially off them (the pub on Saturday night) thanks to Gareth and his jaegerbombs! No to mention continuing the party back at Iggy's tent and doing in all his Welsh whisky! Agree with Gareth, wouldn't mind spending a full day doing the Long Mynd. Could see some really good looking descents on our way round on Friday. Saturday's riding was real quality, especially some of the descents-they went on forever! It was good mix of steep singletrack climbs (one of them just short of 1000ft) and good fast descents which put a smile on your face. Nice to meet Mark as well for the first time. I still don't believe how my soft mate Dave didn't see those wind farms! Sunday's riding was quite different to the day before's, but definitely spoilt by both the weather and trail diversions-I don't think its one I would do again any time soon. See you all on the Peaks weekend, if not before Cheers
