Four of us arrived at Marin car park yesterday to do the Marin and Penmachno loop. It was raining but nothing too heavy but as weather forecast was for rain throughout the day it was expected.
We set off at 9:30 at a relaxed pace and did a little bit of exploring along the way. After a few hours the rain stopped and the sun made an appearance around 7 pm with a finish time of 7:30 pm.
Scores on the doors
10 hours out, 7 hours moving time, 8,000 feet climbing, 1 proper dribble, 3 punctures, 1 snapped chain, 2 refreshment stops, 2 (that I know of) serious nappy rashes, unknown number of wee breaks for Al, lots of bananas, a few pasties and 1 family sized Swiss Roll
All in all a good and very tiring day. Thanks for the company boys (Al - PM me your email address and I'll send gpx to you unless you're on Strava?)

Cheers Gareth, Simon, and Al. It turned out to be a good ride considering we were all going to be doomed by the worst weather phenomenon that Wales had ever witnessed (no such thing) a bit of light rain till lunch time and that was that. A cracking ride and a bloody good laugh, prize giving at the end of day went as follows:
I'm just having another piss award: Al
I wanna get to the top first: Simon (Kom)
Most reliable bike (yes it's french) and dribble award: me
I hate hills and mountain biking award: Gareth
We're at the Spar I'm gonna eat the shop award: Gareth and Al
Here's to the next one

What's the verdict on starting from the Marin rather than Cae'n y Coed?

Once again thanks for what turned out to be a top day's riding & company, given the forecast for the day. Was feeling the love much more this time round than in previous weeks, although I did start off wondering whether or not I was going to make it given the past reports on this ride. Although we had a few mechanicals, they were quite welcome at times to give us a chance for another breather and something to eat.
As for the start point Roger, I can't really comment personally as I've only ever done it from the Marin car park.

What's the verdict on starting from the Marin rather than Cae'n y Coed? I think the only benefit was psychological. When we got to the Marin car park we were finished whereas doing it from CyC you still have the big climb at the beginning of Marin to do. Either way it's a beast of a ride but your alternative descent from Sarn Helen was an improvement.
