Seven of us met this morning for this little venture around the Llandegla area and a loop of the black.
It started off badly for me as when I opened the boot of my car at The Plough car park, I'd realised I'd left my camelbak at home which had my camera and Garmin in it, not to mention all my tubes, pump, drink and food
Anyway, we set off along the road into a bitterly cold wind, made a bit worse with icy conditions on the roads. We then cut off the road and took a track over the moors towards the road upto the mast. Probably not the best decision of the day as the tracks were all covered in snow and tryng to follow them was proving to be anything but easy. However, thanks to Karl's knowledge of the trail we managed to find out way to the main trail and then onto the horribly steep road up to the masts, where we were greeted by a snow storm !
We made our way down a wet and icy sheep track were the sound of ice breaking under our wheels was to be heard for the next mile or so. We then negotiated the short sharp descent towards the road were the snow storm kicked up a level, and continued to do so all the way over the boards into Llandegla Trail Centre.
Then it was a lap of the black route including the B-line. Having not ridden Llandegla in the daylight for at least two years, it felt nice to ride somewhere with lots of swooping single track descents, although there did seem to be an awful lot of climbing. Soon enough we were at the visitors centre where we stopped for a cup of coffee to warm ourselves up.
After the warmth of the visitors centre, outside it seemed to have dropped a few more degrees as we started the first climb out of the car park. Here we bumped into Kriss (KPT1972) out with his young son, who was doing really well on the uneven surfaced climb. After a catch up, we continued up to the Offa's Dyke path before setting off on the descent back to the car park.
Pretty soon we were all changed and having a nice pint and chip butties in the pub. An excellent way to finish off a ride
Cheers to Karl for posting this ride up and sorting out the route, and also for the drinks throughout the ride. Also cheers to Dave for the pint in the pub Good to catch up with everyone and get back out having fun
Sorry there are no pictures from me, gutted too as there were some cracking pictures to be had in all that snow today
