Singlespeeding builds up some really good leg strength pretty quickly, so for anyone who's got an old unloved bike lurking in the back of the shed/garage, give it a go. Makes an ace winter bike too.

Hmmm in my professional opinion I would say that you suffer from 3 things, backside wont leave settee, too many trips to Giorgios ( nice chips though ) and lager ;D. I would say that you are roughly the same the same weight as me and Ive been told that Im FAT ;D. I have noticed when we have been out riding though that you dont keep your cadence the same when we come to an uphill, instead of using your gears you tend to pedal faster up the hill instead of keeping it the same as on the flat which would let the bike pull you up. How do you think I manage to keep up? ;D I think the settee, chips and lager are definately contributing to the lack of fitness. I can't understand why though ;D

Have you noticed if your legs improve further into a ride? Mine ache the 1st few miles of a ride then seem to improve the further I go ( could be something to do with me being the wrong side of 50 though). Is some of it in the head? Remember last time out we were ready to put the bikes on ebay after 8 miles, then recall how we closed the whippet on the litespeed down after 17 miles and everything was rosey until my rear mech disaster( think the 6 miles of singletrack had helped to pick the enthusiasm up there though ). At my last medical in july my resting heart rate was 46bpm, would have thought yours might be a bit lower than it is.

I've never had a low resting heart rate, think its cause its always on tick over ready for action ;D The lunges to build leg strength have been put on hold, I pulled a muscle doing a few last night
