He is thinking of coming down to see the bike, shall I just get the fork pumped up hard as he is a weighty guy and concerned about the forks coping.

Seems from the website you can get them as both air and coil sprung. If you have to pump it up then its air sprung.

Damon, have you got a shock pump? If not I can bring one in for you.

Its pretty simple really - if they have an air valve then they are air forks!! There should be a chart in the manual with suggested pressure settings but a good start is set the air pressure to match the weight - ie if he's 200lb then 200lb air pressure.
Whats on the bottom of the left leg Damon - the one with the brake caliper?? The red knob on the other leg is the rebound adjuster.
How heavy is he anyway?? If its a coil sprung fork then he'll just need a new spring to suit.

It says on your link - www.sram.com/node/61/brand/rockshox/src/fam that it's a solo air. I have a manual for my REBA (which also covers the RECON) which says it's a solo air fork. This would mean it's an air sprung fork. If you have an air valve it's an air fork not coil sprung

Good stuff. On that same left leg you should find a black cap at the bottom of the leg. The air valve is under that.

if its a solo air then the valve is at the crown (top )end of the leg
