You really need a map of the area but alternatives are to go up from Llwyngwril & take the road that runs along the top of Fairbourne cliffs & either follow it down to Dolgellau (superb views of Cader Idris) returning along the railway. Or follow same road as far as the roads down to Arthog then turn right up old drovers road to get on top of Braich Ddu & then a choice of ways down to the Llanegryn area or back to Llwyngwril. Check google as well for the Pont Scethin route above Barmouth & go when its dry. Also get to Llanfihangel y Pennant & get up Cader Idris!
