Anyone ever been? A few lads from my work are thinking of going next year for a couple of days in May, staying near Hope. I've read a bit about riding Jacobs Ladder etc, was hoping for some first hand advice if anyone can help?

As Karl has said, we've been up there a few times, both for days out and weekends away. Lots of good riding, lots of variation in riding conditions. You'll love it The only thing I would warn you about is that it is mainly limestone around there, so if it's wet it will eat our bike.

Colin, I think we're going to bastardise a couple of your routes. We're staying in edale so day one will be one of your ladybower routes and day two will be Jacobs ladder. Looking forward to Hogg farm already!
Cheers for the routes matey

I'd go with Col's routes, try going down Jacobs Ladder and once you get to the stream at the bottom decide if you would like to attempt riding up it! usually the first bend is enough of a distance to do most people in, to clear the entire Ladder in one go if you are capable of coming in the top 5 of the Dyfi enduro you might just have the level of fitness involved for the climb.
Plenty of good bits to ride around Ladybower, Hagg Farm, Potato Alley, The Beast etc..
In the Dark Peak when its really wet you can easily go thru a set of brake pads in just part of one ride, so like most MTB'ing be prepared!

Yes, as Russ says please go down the Ladder. In a my years of riding I can't work out why you would want to push up it. Also, IMHO the Roych Clough section of the Pennine bridleway is much better and more rideable south to north, which is the natural way to do it if you go down Jacob's Ladder.
As for the Ladybower ride make sure to check out my Castleton Carousel route as well as the Ladybower routes. This will give you more possibilities for an off road route back into Edale Valley.
