From my land rover days, I remember that it was ment to be possible to drive from llangollen to Aberystwyth without using surfaced roads etc.... So if I wanted to do llangollen to dolgellau, is it possible still? Maps would be great ?

What Russ said ^^^
The route I put together for the North Wales coast to coast was the best way through I could find. East of the Dyfi forest I had to use the Bwlch y Groes to get to Lake Vyrnwy. To the south of that there are a lot of bridleways between Machynlleth and Lake Vyrnwy but no matter how many times I tried I couldn't find a route that was good to ride for the whole distance. Someone with more local knowledge might know different. The Bwlch is still a challenge on a MTB.
