Technically, the land is owned b one of the local estates and is not 'common land' as most people suspect. Having said that, it seems that people use the area for their own leisure i.e. ride horses, ride bikes and walk their dogs etc. There are no trails up there, just a myriad of tracks made bu locals, sheep and walkers, so there are no maps of routes. It's a matter of making it up as you go along and trial and error. Alternatively, go with someone that knows the area. Parking wise, most people use the 'Cfooked Horn' carpark, a pub just outside of Brynford. Or there's parking in Halkyn. It's one of those 'get out and explore' places. Have fun

Not too sure if you're on Facebook, but there's a page called Venture MTB, the lads that run this page ride around Halkyn Mountain quite a bit so could be worth checking it out. If you do go on there, don't forget to let them know I sent you in there direction

I ride halkyn a fair bit, riding from flint up the climb. Although riding around the moorland is good fun there's not a lot of rough stuff, apart from the bridleways down from the top. The moorland is largely grass too, which can be heavy on the legs this time of year. If I were you I'd park at the top of flint mountain, get a map and follow the BW's up, make up a route then back down the BW's. If you're on strava you can see a few segments that are worth using as a base, once you're on the moorland you can go pretty much anywhere. If you just want to park up at halkyn then (additional to where chris suggested) you can park up near the bluebell pub, under the two masts, or by moel y criol, from where there's some good BW's down the other way, towards ysgefiog on the mold to denbigh road. Whatever you do, just have fun.

...is the disused quarry any good? This is what it looked like this afternoon: There are a few tracks that look like someone has had a play, but I didn't explore them (I was on foot). There is plenty of roadside parking, and I think it's just a case of heading up the nearest path and figuring it out from there.
