It was our annual fundraiser for Ty Gobaith at work a couple of weeks back and I suggested an off road route to Glynllyfon which could be done at the same time as the road riders. Anyway, 7 of us gave it a go. And if you remember rightly on Monday 6th July it was a pig of a day!! After a nice first hour we were in heavy rain and high winds for most of it Bloody summer! The route started from Sychnant and over the double track to the Roman Road. From there a great blast down to Afon Anafon where I had stashed some jelly babies for the needy. After being munched on by the midgies fixing a puncture, we had the great descent of Spooky Wood down to Aber Falls. This is when the heavens really turned on us and after some deliberating on where/what to do I cut some of the off road section out for the better option of following the wet lanes through Rhiwlas to Bethesda. After an awesome feed in Caffi Coed y Brenin (one to visit) a couple left us to journey on on the road and we climbed Mynedd Llandegai and up to the top of Llanberis quarry. This is where the weather was at its worst, very strong side gusts where one of us were blown totally off line and into a fence!! The cold wet descent of the quarry took us to Petes Eats where the clothes were put in their huge tumble drier And this is where we decided to take the roads/cyclelane ourselves as the time and weather were truly against us. All in all a very memorable day out for a good cause!! A video: Some pics: And yes, that's the beast!! For info on the MAXX bike, check out my link in the Kit & Equipment setion (fat bike testing)
