Hi guys,
How's it going?? I was out riding with Aled rallybiker today and got talking about the event we're arranging on the 26th of this month.
Al mentioned that some were keen to find out about the route.
As you can imagine it was quite tough getting permission for an MTB even on the side of snowdon and using part of one of snowdon' paths, and the land owner specified that he didn't want me to release a map, But I'm quite happy to describe the route.
It starts and finishes in Llanberis (the height). There are four distances, but you just enter and choose on the day. We want the event to be relaxed so everyone can enjoy it.
Everyone will go up bwlchmaesgwm (telegraph valley) then down to the rangers. All routes 45k, 60, and 75k will head to rhyd ddu. It's about a mile on the road, then enter beddgelert forest via the new Lon gwyrfai (although it's called Lon, it's all off road) There will be a route layed out there and at the end of the first lap there will be a feed station. From there you decide to go on and do one ore two more laps.
From there the route takes you back along long gwyrfai, then back to the rangers, up and over, down bwlchmaesgwm as the final descent.
The short route will probably go towards the back end of moel Eilio and up to Bwlch y groes for a final descent to Llanberis. I say probably as we might change some of it as there is about 3 miles on road.
But we'll keep you posted on our Facebook page 'the Snowdonia mtb challenge' hope you don't mind me posting that.
If you need anymore info please feel free to contact us on the FB page or gareth@bryniaumtb. I'll login here too in case someone has commented with a question.
Diolch
Gareth

Sounds ace.
Is this one for the hardtail rather than full sus bike going by the route description?
It doesn't actually go up Snowdon summit, just around part of the rangers and maesgwm right?
I reckon i'm going to enter this.

Right, I'm in. Probably finish last like but as long as air ambulance isn't involved, that's fine. Anyone else?

I'm tempted, but if the weather is as bad next Sun it will be a real downer. No forecast for next weekend yet, but when it's out I may jump on and register.

Weather should be OK, but I'll pack my winter gloves just in case.
What type of bikes are the rest of you riding? I'm thinking hardtail but not sure how tech the descents will be...
Kind of split between looking forward to this and getting the fear. Oh well, see you all Sunday!

I believe it's not that technical, however I'll be on the full suss fat bike I was hoping the snow would stay but it's getting a lot milder over the next few days...
