As it happens, this has already been discussed with the MBNW 'management' BUT we need to police what we do, so than any old lunatic (such as yourself Rob ) don't go posting duff routes left, right and centre. Why? Because - (a) We don't want to post up crap routes and make ourselves look dodgy (b) We need to check out the routes first with regard to copyright, etc (c) We have a limited amount of disk space on our host The plan is to include routes on the MBNW super map, with links to a separate 'routes' page that will point to all the route resources (gpx files, route cards, maps, etc) Sound like a plan? Disclaimer - all of the above waffle is subject to approval by Mr & Mrs MBNW ;D

Rob, the GPS saga is getting sorted with the mighty ABACUS ;D On a serious note there are some issues with posting routes. I bought my GPS from a shop in North Yorkshire, My local shop to where I work. The guy there is a cracking lad and I told him what my plans were for the GPS i.e. tracking routes to put them on the website. However, he gave me stern warning. A guy local to him up there also has his own website with route info in the form of memorymap and the likes but the local council got wind of it and are now doing him over through the courts because some of the routes on his site took on public footpaths, as do some of the rides we all embark on. Although there was no proof that people had followed his routes, and no-one had been caught on the footpaths, the councli are doing him pureley on the back of his listed routes and that rides could be following them. Its a sticky one

Martin,
All MTB guys/girls know or should know that public footpaths are not to be used by Bikes but you can walk your bike along the path to which they cant do you for, the same way bike route are not to be used by walkers it swings both ways unless its a bridleway/byways to which there for both, if people stick to that then there wont be any problems to my eyes anyway, but yes its a bit of a sticky one.

What about some sort of discalimer? Saying that, there's routes posted on The Woollybacks and Flat Tyres without any sort or disclaimer.

I stick all mine on Bikely and I've made a thing that will overlay them on the OS Openspace map which is better than Google as it shows paths and bridleways I posted a while back about a route I'd put on Bikely - someone had emailled them to complain that the route was directing bikers down a footpath and it was illegal and they should be shot etc. Bikely got in touch with me about it and asked me to remove the route if it went anywhere it shouldn't. Unfortunately the lady who complained didn't say exactly where it was and she didn't reply to Bikely's reply so I'm not going to do anything else about it! I think you can ride on public footpaths if you have the landowner's permission?
