Amazing time Dan!
I thought I’d done alright in a time of 3.35ish.
The guy who came off was eventually taken away in the Air Ambulance, but was conscious I was told by a marshal. Got to agree, a very well organised event.
No T-Shirt for me neither!!!
Paul

A couple of pics, not great but she was busy stuffing marsbar/lucozade in my mouth. ;D End of the first lap, note the expression of a broken man. Felt physically sick at this point, cramp was destroying my left calf and I was a tad worried about a heartrate in the high 190's. After the second lap and a little more with it. (Note the hand speed-lots of practice.) Coming up to the finish, last lap was strangely the easiest feeling but took 5mins longer than the previous two. Really chuffed to get to the end.

Did you find any gold though! ;D Nope, not that I know of anyway. Amazing time Dan! I thought I’d done alright in a time of 3.35ish. Paul I didn't realise you were there mate, funny though I don't think I'd have recognised anyone anyway. 3:35 is a damn good time, wasn't the singletrack at the bottom a killer? That and the rough as hell climb towards the top. T-shirt's were apparently for peeps who'd done last years race, I spent ages pestering her for one although I can't think why cos I'd never wear it. ;D

Lap 1- 53mins, 178BPM average HR Lap 2- 55mins, 170BPM average HR Lap 3- 61mins, 165BPM average HR Max HR was 199BPM. These figures are all from my HR monitor so should be fairly accurate depending on when I pressed the lap button. Won't wear it again as I think it held me back first lap, started to panic that I was pushing too hard.

It looks like it did a good job in holding you back. Even though I don't race I've been told quite a few times by solo 24hr riders that you should look to keep all your lap times the same whilst timing it so you bonk for good on the finish line. The general consensus is that 85% HR is a good average peaking up to 90% on the climbs. Going into the red over 90% reduces your energy reserves at much too quick a rate. From the data above and your max HR of 199 I reckon your second lap was done at your ideal 3 pace for this event. The quicker 1st lap gained you 2 mins undoubtedly contributed some way to the 6 mins deficit on the last lap with the crash making up the rest.
