The general consensus is that 85% HR is a good average peaking up to 90% on the climbs. Going into the red over 90% reduces your energy reserves at much too quick a rate. From the data above and your max HR of 199 I reckon your second lap was done at your ideal 3 pace for this event. The quicker 1st lap gained you 2 mins undoubtedly contributed some way to the 6 mins deficit on the last lap with the crash making up the rest. Doug the cycling oracle has spoken. ;D You're probably right mate, maybe it was for the best. Crash didn't hold me up at all though because I'd just barged my way past two other riders seconds before and didn't want to get run over so there was none of my usual footballer-esque rolling around and milking it. ;D In case the others care it was at the top of the dual track (final bermed descent back to start finish) where there was a little drop into a muddy puddle, that's the fooker that got me (and scratched my carbon frame). Wow I might start the XC Racing lark if you get to bonk on the finish line They offer them free knowing you won't have any energy left to do the deed. Oggy would save a little in reserve if he thought he was going to get any.
