I was down at CyB on the weekend riding the Afon trail with my kids. I noticed new markings for a trail called 'Cyflym Coch'. Does anyone know what it's like? There weren't any trail maps for it at the centre. It's be nice to have an introductory singletrack trail to bring my boys on from fire road riding.

That looks quite nifty. You could add it onto the Temptiwr to make it into a longer trail with the option to stop half way around if things are getting tough or you're stuck for time.

All sounds a bit vague that, plus the Welsh version grades it as easy/green whilst the English translation gives it a red/difficult grading. I wonder where it goes? How long it is etc? It starts at the same point as the Afon, then branches off after 200yards or so. Cutting out Badger implies it's aimed at beginners I'd have thought.

This is basically the easier bits of the MBR and Dragons back trail linked together with existing fire roads. Having said that I think they may have put in some new trail to enable a detour around 'Badger' which would be a bit intimidating for a beginner. Normally when I do the MBR I incorporate 'Dreamtime' and 'Uncle Fester' from the Dragons Back into the ride as they are such good fun! All the singletrack sections on this trail are graded red for difficulty and are pretty fast and flowing, hence the name 'Cyflym Coch' (Red Fast!) This might be one for the missus!

We've done the same route a few times before they put a name it it! But rather than take the "Afon" fire road back to the car park, at the end of Pink Heifer followed the MBR back over the hill to finish.
Rather than follow certain routes, when you get to know the trails, you can make up your own of the favourite sections!

Rode the Cyflym Coch today , did the normal start of MBR instead of Afon smooth trail start . No difference in length just more testing over Badger than Afon start . Cyflym joins normal trail coming in from the right just after the slab sections . Pay no attention to expected time of 1.5 - 3 hrs as i did it in 50 mins with out really pushing myself . Have to agree it would be a better finish going up over Mbr after bridge than going back along fire road of the Afon . On saying that its still a good connection of some great single track , with all climbing up steadily rising fire road .

the trail map at the centre claims its a short route to take you to some of the fast/flowy singletrack (Uncle fester and pink heifer i think) could be quite a fun little trail to do after doing one of the real ones

I passed the markers for this today while passing through CYB. We were tempted to give it a bash but because we were on hardtails we wern't sure how technical it would have been. The section we saw lookes super flow though.

Seeing the sun was out did a quick blast of this today. Really enjoyed it, fast and flowy but only around 11km long. You could easily add the end bit of the mbr onto it - ie when you cross the footbridge and get back to the tarmac road turn right for the final climb and decent of the mbr.
