There are a few people on here that have bought or thought about buying a van for their MTB missions. On looking into it I found this website specializing in doing alternative camper conversions for the smaller vans like the Citroen Berlingo or the VW caddy. www.amdro.co.uk/jump.phpThese basic conversions are no-frills with just a bit of storage, a bed and a cooker but if your not fussed about that they are just the job. The smaller vans are a lot cheaper on fuel than the bigger ones, and the kit can be taken out so you can use it as a load carrying van again. The company is based in Waunfawr, Caernarfon and we are off there on Tuesday to have a look at the conversions to get an idea of the build quality ans size. |

they look alright i supose! doesnt bother me sleepin on the floor of the van, so dont really see the need for the box's and table.

they look alright i supose! doesnt bother me sleepin on the floor of the van, so dont really see the need for the box's and table. OAP's need their creature comforts and somewhere to keep essentials such as slippers and horlicks ;D ;D ;D |

Went to have a look at the camper set ups yesterday up in Waun fawr. Wanted to get an idea of the size of the units and how much space they take up. Looking at them and the quality of the wood and material used the £1300 price tag is fair. The twin hob meths burner in itself retails at £300.
We also had a look at the VW transporter conversion they do, what a piece of kit, so well thought out and well built.
The Oztent advertised on the website is on the cards too (there are pics of it on there as an awning). I thought the £400 price tag was very steep until i saw it in the flesh, made out of top notch rip stop material and looks bomb proof and had some fantastic reviews on other forums. The sort of tent you buy and will last a lifetime.
After doing some homework on the campervan / van thing for mountain biking and wanting to keep it minimal this is the way to go. A small van, cheap to run, a bed for the night and somewhere to brew up.

It looks cheap on the website but its quality stuff in the flesh, Ply with a tough laminate finish, apparently the same hard wearing finish thats on Playground stuff. One bike with wheels off will go in the cab overnight and the other bike, with wheels off will go under the bed area out of the way when set up. If you decide to use the tent the bikes will either lock in the van or in the tent which you can lock via the zips. People have even locked their bikes to the tents internal frame because it doesnt come appart. There are ways and means  |

Don't bother, they're over priced and the quality of the units-crap. My old Transporter was on that dodgy Wheeler Dealers' show, I sold it to the production company.....they used amdro units and fake grass to convert it....  CLICK |
