I've got those shimano pedals which have spd clips on one side and are flats on the other. How do you find them? My mate has dodgy knees, only giving him grief when MTBing, so the doc has said to go for SPuDs so that his feet are in a fixed position. He's been looking at those Shimano pedals, got any advice?

Well then, I havent fallen off (yet)
My main fear was that there wouldn't be enough float.. but there seems to be lots. There is plenty cleat adjustment as well so getting a good position should be ok.... but I still need to play around with that.
Setting the adjustment to half way between tight and slack is enough to be able to jump the bike off the floor without comming out yet still a slight deliberate twist and your out .
Early days but looking good here.

I have changed my Shimano SPD's to CB candies as I had real problems with my right leg causing real pain & cramp, the candies allow my feet to float more hence not being to fixed and allow more movement. Its supposed to be one of the advantages of eggbeaters, it seems to work.

I ran egg beaters for a while. They are not adjustable like shimano's however you have 2 ways you can put the cleats on your shoes, one gives you a small unclip angle and the other way gives you a wider unclip angle. Can't remember the exacts of it all.
The egg beaters have brass washers in the mechanisms, they are a little stiff to clip in and out when new but after some use they ease up a little.
Best thing about crank bros stuff is you can buy spare parts for them unlike shimano's.

I find I do unclip more easily, still seem to fath about clipping in though.

Well I gave up today and fitted a second set of spd's to the other bike, so no looking back now - although I still look down a fair bit when comming to junctions etc :-)
I've had trouble in the past with clicky and painful knees, particularly after a hard session on them .. ( gym or bike ) but the spd's have certainly not made this worse.

Xybadog i've been using spuds for a while now , but to get over foot release problems i use shimano SH56 cleats which allow you to relese foot from pedal with twisting movement in any direction or even upwards with enough force.
hope this helps . ormite
