Rode Penmachno Loop 2 yesterday, Ive done loop 1 before but never loop 2. Started off from Ty Mawr at marker 22 and did the whole of loop 2 with a bit of loop 1. I messed up a the end when i took a wrong turn and ended up going down to the car park at the Start of loop 1 which meant i had a road ride with a massive hill in it to get back to the van. I wasn't overly impressed with loop 2 to be honest, there were no real uphills and no exciting downhills, it just seemed to go up for a few meters then down for a few meters. I'm not the biggest fan of going uphill but its alway worth it if you have a good quality downhill to get that adrenaline buzz off on the other side, but sadly there wasn't any of that. Some one else mentioned about the trail being overgrown and it was a bit but think thats just because of the time of year and it not being one of the busiest trails. On the positive side it was a great trail for getting away from it as you dont see many people up there and its got that wild feel about it that you dont get with a lot of trails. Id say its worth the ride but Ive got places i will ride first. Still like loop one tho apart from the first fire road climb ;D Forgot the camera as usual so here some pics i took on the phone

Oggy, You must have enjoyed the last single track section through the woods.
I've done loop 2 a few time but never been round when its dry yet, even rode it in the winters when we had some bad frosty morning that made things more interesting.
Guess when they were designing loop 2 they were banking on us combing it with the first loop which has the better climbs, saying that I have not done both @ the same time as yet.
Give me a s shout if you fancy doing loop 1 or the Marin some time soon.

Do you mean the section after across the part where the trees have been felled? If you do, i did enjoy that section but i think thats is offically on loop 1 (i may be wrong tho) Ive riden loop 1 in the winter and the trail is one big stream Im not slating this trail but next time I think i will stick to loop 1 Yeh ill give you a shout John, when do you usally ride? Sikora, its worth the trip down mate, ps the boardwalks are fairly level, think they have been put there to get over a boggy area rather than as a Northshore Stunt.

It's the section which is alot more like the Marin just your in the woods bit more rocky and when you final finished you will rejoin loop1 half way up the long climb you will turn left and head down hill to your vehicles. I ride weekends one week its a Saturday and the other its a Sunday, reason being every other week I have to do a Saturday morning.

Yeh the panels on these are flat so are a lot easier than the log ones. Martin is on about maybe going up this week, give him a shout

I didn't mind it to be honest, I rode it back around April time and did loop 1 and 2 together.
From what I remember on loop 2 is that there is a lot of fast flowing singletrack.
I remember being totaly knackered at the end as well. ;D

I did loop 1 today for the first time, I was reasonably impressed, especially the last sections but wasn't too happy about what seemed like miles of forest road climbs.

And some tough ones at that, you know what they say you have to go up to come down

We rode loop 2 last week and it's seriously overgrown from the last time we did it. That must have been a hell of a climb back up to the car, at least you went past the pub for a break ;-) Good views form loop 2 but it does lack some decent downhill sections.
