Thanks to everyone who replied. Just to give you all a quick update - I am none of the wiser to the extent of the injury or to how long I'm going to be off the bike other than what the x-ray was showing, which looks like the collar bone is not attached to my shoulder. Please excuse the poor description, as I am not a doctor. I am just a poor one-armed rider. All they did was send me on my way with a sling and some painkillers and said if you don't hear from the fracture clinic in seven days, give us a ring now thats what you call service So rather than sitting around and waiting, I decided to take Oggy's advice and telephoned Bangor hospital myself to chase up an appointment, and they informed me that Llandudno's A&E department hadn't even sent over my file over yet I got a phone call back later to say they have now recieved my file, and they have given me an appointment for Monday, which makes you wonder how long I would have had to have waited if I had not been in contact. In the meantime I will just have to find something else to keep myself amused other than playing the waiting game. It's a good job I'm not in any great pain, it is just more annoying that I am reduced to one arm. No driving. No biking. Till further notice. Big thanks to the Leon the pro, Dave ,Oggy and Rob for all their help with assisting me on the day ;D ;D ;D P.S. Before anyone asks, I did not spend 3 hours typing one handed, I got my very kind assistant to do the job for me on one condition. I repair her internet. Not a bad deal in the long run.

I think they make you wait so they can redo the X ray once the swelling has gone down.
With me they stuck me in a cast and I had to come back 5 days later, even though it was apparently obvious on the X ray that the bone was snapped it two!
I think they will just leave you in a sling and tell you to rest? I've heard it stitches back together pretty quickly but after you're out of the sling you might not be allowed to use it for a while until the join gets strong again.
I'm sure google will tell you all sorts ;D
All the best!

a few of my friends have had the same injury when racing motocross (common injury) in that sport the good thing is it doesn't take long to heal and have no problems there after

I'm really sorry to hear about your shoulder John. Just back from holiday this afternoon and trying to catch up on stuff hence the late reply! I damaged mine about 10 years ago when I came off my road bike and the result is a collar bone that sticks up a bit at my shoulder. Make sure you get some physioptherapy for it once it's moving again because I didn't and it's a weak as my 9 month old sons! All the best and I hope it's starting to ease a bit now.
