Hi,
i was reading this months MBUK and came accross an article (October 2009, page 38) that says that
"there are plans afoot to develop a trail network around Blaenau Festiniog. Antur stiniog have already earmarked 9km of DH specific routes, a series of XC trails, up lift route and area sutible for 4X track.
The group has been given £30,000 from Energy soultions (from Madox nuclear reactor sites). With a total build cost of £2.2 million"
Wow i been looking for more info on this but cant find any. Sounds Amazing!!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D
Any body know more.

This has been in the pipeline for some time. Heard about it a while ago but dismissed it as speculation as i'd heard nothing for months . This is going to be fantastic if the reports are correct; not to mention a much needed boon for Blaenau. This is just what north Wales needs ;D

Yes it's in the pipeline. We had something round at work about it a few months back.
I think it's still in the feasibility stage so it could be a while before anything actually gets built.

9km of downhill track with up lift whoo hooo. I heard something ages a go but like Arnie thought it was pure speculation as these things never seem to go ahead. Perhaps this really might happen. Whats the word on the street Dyls? Keep your ears to the ground folks

hope it gets the go ahead, brings money and jobs to the area. It would be nice if the trails started at the town centre to get people to use the local shops/cafes (or encourage more into the town - not really sure what there is at the moment). How many other decent trails can you get to by train? (Marin is the only one I know of) I suspect that the routes would be a fair way out of the town though and will have their own trail centre. Maybe as a halfway house someone could build a trail from the trail centre down to the town ;D

I read about this proposal and the Antur Stiniog initiative while I was in the area over new year. Sounded pretty promising but doesn't seem to have moved forward a great deal since then: I suppose these things do take time but surely there's a case for some assembley support here.
Seems like a great area for some DH tracks anyway so good luck to all parties involved-

I've been asked a few times to assist with this but for some reason or another the nights the meetings have been held I've been otherwise engaged.
The routes for the downhill, as I understand have been virtually agreed, together with a new uplit road.
The routes for the XC ones are near Tangrisiau, there's one around the lake which I would guess would be a green/blue and a more demanding one up past Cwmorthin Lake/Moelwyn Mountains. There was also talk of a new XC route in Coed y Garnedd - Maentwrog.
This is something that has been ongong for a couple of years now so I assume there must be something in it - otherwise what's the point in spending all the money on feasibility/consultations/design.
