Any one ridden here? Loads of trails but littered with mineshafts. Thinking of having a look in the coming weeks.

I've not been there, but weren't there plans to reopen it as a quarry/mine? (which I think have been put on hold now)

It's a really interesting spot- went round there with a geologist mate a couple of years ago, well worth a look. With regard to biking there- i would suggest you recce it first on foot, and proceed with extreme caution! some very big drops there! We got accosted by a farmer, and also some sort of warden came in a 4x4 to ask us what we were doing there so not sure what the access situation is. Shame, it should be more accessible IMO. Let us know how you get on there.

There's a temporary visitor centre there this season. Had a chat with the volunteer chap there, and asked him if MTBing was allowed on the path and he said yes, so long as ridden sensibly, and considering other path users. Planning to ramble about first, as a bit of a recce, some good looking singletrack through the heather, by the looks of it.

Went there today on my lunchbreak and spoke to a friendly guy who looked a bit like Uncle Albert from Only Fools and Horses They welcome biking on the paths. The official waymarked path is roughly a 2 mile circular path encompassing the Great Opencast. As said elsewhere on this thread, there are some very steep drops and the terrain's all very loose and rocky. There seems to be endless tiny paths meandering through the heather. All the shafts have been capped but its still a place to exercise caution. I only scratched the surface on my recce but it seems there could be some fun to be had there. I'll defo be taking my bike there to check it out soon. Here's some pics The Great Opencast

Looks really cool. Just spotted this on their website though: "The Parys Mountain site is protected by legislation. Damage can result in fines or imprisonment." so you probably want to be careful where you go downhilling There's a map of the SSSIs here: www.amlwchhistory.co.uk/parys/sssi.htm
