Whats the target with the weight loss? Be careful not to loose a lot at once as some of your muscle mass may go with it!

Hi Mark, looking at 16st realistically and that is accounting for some weight gain from muscle mass. Even when I was doing 200 road miles a week I didn't drop below 15st so 10 years on happy with 16st with a good set of lungs, legs and a stronger heart

Thats your first milestone, before long you will be going all the way up in a higher gear! Keep at it. ;D

I shifted about a stone in the first 3 months of Mtb'ing about 18 months ago-shame I did not carry on with the progress

I have been back into regular rides for 2 weeks and have made some real progress Llandegla is my local 'gym'; last week I did 4 Blue runs and a Black run. I had a setback on the Saturday as I hadn't built in an recovery time. A lesson learnt and this week I have alternated days on and off. Last week I was pretty pleased with breaking an hour on the Blue! The slow pace was due to the stops I take on the climb. I'd stop at the wooden sculptures, at the end of the harvested climb, at the first berm. I'd always struggled on the climbs terribly, mainly heart rate and lactic problems. When doing the Red I'd really run out of gas once halfway round. If doing the Red, I'd also stop at the second berm, again then when it goes back into the forest and at the Snowdon view and walk climbs on the way back in. My first Red run was on a social ride and was 2h30, my second this Tuesday on another social ride and I did push on a little, but still stopped at the end of the harvested area and the first berm. With encouragement from oldbird I dropped the stop at the wooden sculptures and heeded the advice of not starting too fast and pace a climb. But it was still a 1h50. So today I decided to take that a little further and set off slower working on less cadence. To my surprise I didn't stop at the wooden sculptures, the end of the clearing, the first berm, the second or third berm or the re-entry to the forest just stopping at the Snowden view to check my emails and voicemails (still looking for work). I then didn't stop at all, only hopping off on the double steep climb at the second 'hump' and then getting back on. From there I didn't stop at all till the end. To be honest I am totally shocked! I did it in 1h19. Now I know this isn't a willy wave but for me it represents the best day ever on the MTB so far. I know a longer ride in open country would still kill me but I am buzzing from my small achievement. So a big thank you to all the people who have dragged me along, encouraged me, been diplomatic when I have been whining and given good advice based on their greater experience. Honestly you have all made my riding one of the most enjoyable things I have done in years I am very very very grateful. It has all culminated in a ride which has left me charged about my progress and has motivated me to kick on harder. Thank you ;D Data: Elevation and HR over distance Comparision of Tuesday vs today over distance Comparison of Tuesday vs today over time

i think stopping actually makes it harder as your muscles cool down and make it harder to get going again me and Missy did the marin the other day and it was my first non stop (no gassing) ride since last autumn we completed it in 2.5 hours and that s mainly due to me being so hopless on the downs! (going up doesnt seem to be a problem) but still pleased with that time as did'nt do it any quicker last year was aching a bit after tho' ;D must learn some skills
