you are right about the foot positioning Gus-I'm a very bad example of it but the need to put my foot down quick overrides it!! I always ride clipless on the road though and the difference is obvious

I've got a pair of spds but they are road ones and not mountain bike ones! Would that make a difference?? Just SOOOO scared of falling off and breaking my ankle as I have spend 50% of the time doing so lol!!
Ps next forum ride is a week on Saturday at 10am at Saints Gym xx

Another thing you can do if you change to a Shimano spd pedal is to get Shimano Cleat SH56 which are multi - directional release cleats . This means unlike normal cleats which release with an outward movement of foot these allow you to remove foot in any direction so they are much easier to get used to and you tend not to fall over when getting used to being clipped in , yet still give you the benefit of good positioning and Superior climbing efficiency .

I have found the Crank Brothers system much much easier to get in and out of than the Shimano's (which I've used a lot in the past)

That is my concern as on my spin bike I have to turn my foot to unclip, which even on a spin bike I have trouble doing!! But ones that are easier to get in/out sound better! I suppose I could try them on easy paths before I go full steam onhead on them!
Thanks for your input though, much appreciated!!

Dont forget to slacken off the tensioners, the slacker they are the easier it is do disengage and with a little bit of force you dont even need to twist but as Ken said multi directional clears are the way forward and everyone falls off at the start but make sure no one is a around to see unlike someone who couldnt unclip and fell infront of a load of women at a bus stop
