One question which im sure one of you will know the answer to - ive read that saving images as jpegs reduces the quality? Is there a setting on these lumixs to save the images as somthing other than jpegs? Also what sequence of steps (software etc) do you guys use to get the files off you camera as ive heard this can effect the quality to? It does but not noticable unless you modify it again and again and then it losses a lot of quality, save the file as either a TIFF, BMP, PNG then edit it as there bigger files so keeps most of the info. As for the last transfering from camera to PC does not affect the image as your not actually doing anything to it. I just stick the CF,SD card into the comp and downlaod them from there. As for the Lumix which model os it?

Maybe 3 inches tops in Rhos on Sea. Nice soft powdery snow this morning.
I made it into work - so did the guy coming in from Anglesey.

Never mind, cheers for the info tho Rob
Sandra, its a jack up barge used for marine activitys, its probably doing some sea bed sampleing for the windfarms or a pipe or cable line. In a previous job we used to use it for Geological surveys for the some of the windturbines that are out there now.

I'm another one who has been in work all day But managed to get out this evening to play with the big camera and a tripod. Got some funny looks standing on a bridge above the A55 at -7 degrees this evening Having viewed the pictures I think I need a filter for the lens to get rid of the glare from the lights. So may borrow one first to see just how much difference they make Anyway, these are the the better of the pictures

You have to go to there mid line for the RAW function and there bout £400 In a lot of cases the camera hardware is the same and they just use different firmware on them and price position them accordingly. However people have cottoned on to this and there are groups that develop custom firmware for cameras to unlock the features that are there. For example here's a linky to a site specialising in the Canon Powershot range chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDKI can even take .RAW pictures on my phone due to some enterprising software devs
