So what do i need to replace my dérailleur with a reliable one? I have a Specialized Enduro Comp 2010 I have SRAM X7 shifters SRAM X9 9 speed Dérailleur medium cage My Cassette is Shimano HG61, 9-speed, 11-34t Do I need to change my front dérailleur too? That is working perfectly Foz you will need to replace your shifters and back mech, your front mech will be shimano anyway, I would look at SLX or XT, I swapped from X0 to XT and have been very impressed and happy ever since. I personally think XT is a good balance of quality and performance wihtout costing a fortune, therefore if the mech breaks off im not going to cry X0=£145 XT=£45 it's a no brainer.

Dan B, Thanks for the reply.
One more question, do I need a medium cage for the new dérailleur?

Dan B, Thanks for the reply. One more question, do I need a medium cage for the new dérailleur? No worries I tend to think of it like this a rough guide for MTB's Triple Chinring = Longcage Mech Double Chainring = Medium Single Chainring = Short This will generally work out about right but check with the manufacture before spending your hard earned

Why won't the X7s work with a Shimano rear mech? Or are you recommending Shimano shifters due to reliability?

Ah right, ok. Glad you mentioned that cos I've been looking at an XT rear mech. So I would have to change my shifters. I take it front mechs are a different story? Or would I need a Shimano front mech with Shimano shifters?

The front mechs are interchangeable Sram shifter Shimano mech vice versa, my Giant was equipped from the factory with X9 shifters and an XT front mech.
If memory serves me correctly SRam have only been producing MTB front mechs for a year or two.

OK, I feel really dumb asking this. Can you get XT shifters to work with a 2 speed front setup?
I just can't get my head round it......
