Can you do to much riding? I.e. when weight training you can fatigue a certain muscle by training it to much. Can you over do the biking as planning on riding every other night during summer to get stamina up so i can do a big ride at weekends

Don't forget to have 2 easy rides spaced out in the week or you'll burn out; recovery is very important. Remember LESS IS MORE. Ask "Sarj" about balancing the weight training to prevent muscle fatigue

My first post here ........ So really riding every night is a bad thing? Ive only just, well since christmas (following a spell in hospital and being told to give up fags and alcohol) come into this. 36 yrs old Live in Machynlleth and Im putting in about 50/60miles a week (try and get out most nights if I can). My regular trails are Mach 1 and 2 a mixture of forestry fire roads (some steep) and the usual commute to and from home on the black top. Plus try and do some hill sprints up the Wylfa every week .....ouchhhhhhh I think Im quiet fit now although accept its all realtive...... it killed me at first but over the last month or so Ive really notice how my strength, stamina and fitness has improved. Whats the average mileage that you boys are racking up a week and over how many outings. My rule of thumb perhaps wrongly is if Im getting home after 10 miles cycling hard and feel like I could go again is that I need to find something harder and or go further next time. Admitedly Ive thrown myself into this but its gripped me and has become a replacement for the nicotine.... oh yes and if your my Dr the alcohol. ;D Thoughts appreciated. Ian.

Ok Ben ..............perhaps your not the best person to draw any parallels with. Ill do an hour or so 4 nights a week and longer at the weekend if it works in with other stuff. Little and often?

Usually get out once or twice at the weekend and once in the week with a mixture of MTB and road. Don't have time to get out every day, and I'm not sure I would actually want to as it would start to turn into a chore instead of something to look forward to. I think I probably average about 40 miles a week unless I ride to work which doesn't happen very often.
Most rides on here probably average around the 15 to 20 mile mark and are at the pace of the slowest person.

Even I put in around 70 miles a week now the weather is on the mend
