I got my fisrt mtb in the early 1990's and started again last year with a Marin Hardtail. Bought a FSR XC Pro last week and only been out once, so far so good. Seems massive improvement from the hardtail.
These days we've mainly been going to the Marin and Penmachno loops.

The second loop at penmachno is quite different from the first, much more level but has some good sections. Rather than do both loops together we tend to park at the minor road from Penmachno to Ty Mawr. There you can start with loop 2 and a small section of loop 1 to finish back at the car.

The reason i aint done loop 2 yet is that i didnt really want to do loop one and two in one go, what you do sounds good, have you got directions to where u park? Thanks

Have a look at this map. www.dilan4.com/beics/dolen1a.htmLoop 2 starts around the road junction and marker 21/22. Park at the road junction and ride loop 2 first, it rejoins loop 1 around marker 23 then ride a section of loop 1 to around marker 28 then ride down the track to marker 7 or 8 and follow loop 1 back round to marker 22. That just one route, there are many options on loop 1 to cut back to the car depending on how fit you feel!?! Another shorter one is to cut from marker 23 to 15 on loop 1. To get to the lane, turn right by the pub lin the middle of Penmachno and follow the narrow lane up the hill. You also miss out the big climb at the start of loop 1 Hope this helps. Rob

Nice 1 Rob just what I was looking for, ive been searching the net for a penmachno map, ill put it in to the links section for reference. Will give it a go as soon as this bloody broken hand sorts itself out.
Do you no if theres any printed up maps of the pen trails been publised or if they are marked on the os maps?
Thanks

I don't think there are any official maps as yet. I have a couple of maps showing both loops, they look like gps tracks that have been overlaid on to an os map. I can't find the links for them but have the files on my pc, can I email them to someone to post up on the site??
Have you heard about the planning application for a visitor centre up there? I think it will spoil the natural and remote feel to the place.

Hi Rob,
Yeah I've heard about the planne centre. I read about it in the North Wales Weekly News. The locals are dead against it. Must admit I'm sat on the fence about it. It would be brilliant to get another trail centre up our way and no doubt it will bring some cash into penmachno. But on the other hand you have to respect the locals point of view on it.
I dunno, suppose what I'm getting at is, if we get one, briliant, if we dont, ah well, at least the trails still there.
Im supprised there hasnt been plans for one in the Llanrwst/betws area?
