clocks going back this weekend and with this being my first winter, I was wondering how often you all get out and how you keep your fitness up. I have set myself a challage to ride all of the CRC marathons next year. I normally do around 100 miles mainly off road every week since Feb this year, but with work and darkness and impending icy roads; I think its going to be around 40 - 60 Did three hours and two forests in the pitch dark tonight (with my new light), passed two other groups of riders as well 8- ) I was totally covered in mud really enjoyed trying to stay on so much fun ;D indoors just doesn’t appeal to me at all and there is no way I want to become a telly tubby over the winter. I did buy a kettle bell a few weeks ago, brilliant results already but 30 mins max for me and im bored.

Do you have a road bike as well ? i was maybe thinking thats how i could do the miles safely on gritted roads. yes Ruthin 100 was my first, took me nearly 6 hours totally addicted now ;D I hope to do the night one next year I should of read the light reviews on here, i went and bought a 1200 lum off ebay, i picked a torch type thinking it would be better than carry a battery pack. Its acceptable but its too top heavy for llandegla and the range isn't wide enough (too much of a spot). Think i will have to put a new one on my xmas list

In the winter i do maybe 1 night a week( but not always) and a Saturday and Sunday, other weeks just a Saturday or Sunday. Anymore than that and I think it would become tedious and like Jeff I think I'd lose my mojo.

I think one evening and one weekend a week is plenty in the winter, I tend to hammer the gym a bit more if the weather's crap!
Planning to do 2 or 3 of the CRC's myself, I did Llandovery & Long Mynd last year and they were ace. My challenge was to do the road ride on the Sat and the MTB on the Sun, which was OK until Sunday morning when I just ended up crawling round the 25 or 50k route, owch!

This oldgit gets two 25 milers in a week; plus short spins on the turbo if it's raining. It's all slow roadie stuff

They're excactly the same lights as I bought last month. Only mine were about £35, came with a rear light too and took a week to arrive from Hong Kong. I would hazard a guess this person is buying those and selling them on again at a tidy profit. Now there's a good idea! The spread of light is excellent and the burn time is around 5 hours on full power. Well worth getting, even if it's only for riding on the roads www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170514393420?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649

100 miles a week is pretty good going Scrappy, l usually manage 1-2 rides at the weekend, and maybe 1 during the week if I'm lucky / have the energy after work. Probably average something like 30-40 miles a week over the year, but less in winter. Still managed the Ruthin CRC100, the Etape Cymru and a linked ride of Marin and Penmachno in one this year, so I don't think you do need to ride 100 miles a week in order to attempt all the CRC's (depending on what time you want to get round them of course!) Having said that you were faster than me for the Ruthin one
