I'm trying to get hold of a really deep 10mm socket so I'm ready to service my new 2012 Reba's when the time comes. The nuts on the bottom are now recessed up inside the fork legs so you can't bodge it with a spanner like you could with the earlier versions.
I ordered one deep 10mm socket, but it wasn't deep enough. I think it needs to be >50mm or so inside.
Anyone had the same problem, and where did you buy a suitable socket / tool from?

The recessed bolts caught me out too when I bought mine. I bought the socket from Halfords. Probably not the cheapest place but it wasn't too bad. (Tried Motormania first because they are cheaper but they had every size except a 10).
If you want to borrow it let me know.

Try adding an extension bar to your socket.

Thanks for the offer Pete, but it's a regular job so I'd rather have the tool in my toolbox. Will have a look in Halfords next time I'm in Wrexham.
Extension bar won't work Dave as the negative air valve sticks through the nut by about 50mm, hence very deep socket required

If 3/8" drive is do-able then uktools.com do a 120mm long 10mm socket.

I bought mine form Halfrauds, worked on my sids as they were the same. Welcome to borrow if you want to pick it up of some one on a ride but I'm guessing you want one to keep

Gruffalo's tool looks good and exceptionally long, but a tad pricey on the pricey side....

www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_205785_langId_-1_categoryId_165469£4.99 Register your CC with Quidco a few days before hand and use that to buy it in the shop, then you'll get a whopping 22p cashback Have you also got a long allen key to undo the bolt on the other leg? (my normal ones are just too short). The rebound adjust knob is a tube and you might need pliers to pull it out, mine was quite stiff the first time ( ) Undo the nut (actually another tube) on the negative air valve side but leave the head just above the valve as you need to hit it with a mallet to release the stanchions. I didn't fancy just hitting the top of the valve in case it damaged it. Similarly part undo the nut on the other leg and either hit the allen key to release the stanchion or use a metal bar to get down inside the leg. Ideally slacken both sides off before you start hitting things with the mallet (like with other models). Can you tell I've just done my forks? ;D

Remember to deflate both chambers before taking the forks to bits

Cheers Pete, last forks were Rebas too though so I know the drill. Good to see nothing else has changed apart from the recessed bits though.

my 3/8" drive halfords 10mm socket is 52mm deep from the lip, my 1/2" drive one is 62mm
i like my new 3/8 stuff (bought for working on a bloody audi V6,) as even on the deep sockets the section for the nut is only about 10mm deep so the nuts don't fall down inside like on my older 1/2" drive kit which the hex section is nearly full length
