What a cracker of a ride which included some great off road north of the clwyds range plus some clwyds for good measure. Starting from the A541 Lay-by at Afonwen (near Caerwys) the ride headed north past Penucha, over to St. Beuno's, through Termeirchion and over Sodom before dropping back down to and crossing over the A541 near Bodfari, from here it climbed partway up Moel-y-Parc, then a detour to join the Veranda, here we made our way around to the back end of Penycloddiau - climbed to the top of the fort and then took the HUGH drop back to the cars. The ride was 21 miles with a mix of all types of different terrain, including some small country lanes (to bump the miles up a bit). Ross managed to snap his rear axle and quick release, thankfully he managed to keep control of his bike through a fast muddy forest section on Sodom and fixed the wheel in the frame with zip ties, this let him limp down the hills and to the A541 where unfortunately he had to take the road for about 1 mile back to the cars. The rest of us carried on over Moel-y-Parc, the veranda descent then up and over Penycloddiau then the huge fast down back to the cars where 41.7mph was clocked!!!! On the Veranda Andy managed to face-plant giving himself a nice bloody forehead and bruised ribs. All in all a top ride with great tracks, sadly the views were mostly missing due to the thick low cloud and mist.

top class ride that , thanks Gus for leading that- really enjoyed it despite having some really monstrous hills in it!! was good to meet with some people who I did'nt really know before and also Ross who unfortunately had to bail after bike problems. Andy, hope you're ok after your unfortunate dismount

Was a very good ride thanks everybody, Shame about my rear wheel got home and upon further inspection my axle has snapped in two pieces/the bearings have gone everywhere and the quick release snapped although i think we did a pretty good bodge with cable ties it wasn't going to fix a axle together. Probably my own fault for jumping with the bike on Friday in lloc forest. Did Andy have a off and is he alright?

I'm fine thanks Ross, my own fault piddling about putting my camera away whilst riding over roots Nice slo-mo dismount sort of landing on my forehead but luckily didn't damage the bike as my ribs cushioned the bars I've had a bath, and I've had my tea, which was rather nice but I wont go into details because I know there's quite a few folk on here that don't eat properly...the bikes in the garage and can whistle if it thinks I'm washing today I'll sort some pics out in a bit or tomorrow ,depending on alcohol consumption what the doctor says

I had a most superb day. Thanks Gus and everyone. I love the banter and being out in the welsh mountains but the company makes it. Happy days

Looks like a good day was had by all. Some great pictures as usual. And if anyone is interested in doing a shorter version of the route, we will be doing one on next Saturday's Beginner's Ride. See the 'Plan your Rides' section for details
