Signed and shared...I always tell ramblers I'm on a protest trespass like the ramblers on Kinder Scout in 1932 if I get challenged I'm quite surprised non of them actually recognised you from the original photograph Gareth

Sod England and NI, maybe MBNW should submit a response to this one: wales.gov.uk/consultations/transport/activetravelbill/?lang=enThe emphasis seems to be on allowing cycling on paths in towns (not sure if that's paths in parks or footways at the side of the road) but they're also thinking about changing the definition of footpaths to allow MTBs and horseriders to use them. It would need lots of pro cycling responses though - the Ramblers have apparently said that they will oppose anything that allows people to cycle on public footpaths.

Why not respond on behalf of MBNW, after all we're an 'organisation' with a considerable number of members.

Hi, not a local but I would argue you should definitely submit a group one as well as all filling in an individual submition. We on the un[d]evolved side of the border are really hoping Wales will join scotland in leading the way on this! It is within your grasp! Thanks Unk.

maybe they could consult with Llandudno Council and get them to come out the dark ages. prom madness rolls on. Jeremy Vine is up here Monday to discuss the cycling issue in the town. Roy Spilsbury of CTC will be putting case forward 7.30 monday morning on prom. A few supporters would be helpful. I plan to be there.

Signed and shared on fb. As a sustrans volunteer, it's my pleasure to spend time lobbying for improved access for walkers and cyclists. Moreover, I'm happy to spend time maintaining pathways and routes within the national cycle network for all users. Isn't it sad that a bunch of sad and angry ramblers now want to focus their efforts on restricting access to their own 'kind' rather than promoting increased access for sustainable transport solutions and healthier leisure pursuits?

Very sad indeed, on the whole I do loads of riding where I shouldn't really (foorpaths etc), and 90% of the time I have no trouble, I'm always polite to walkers and often end up chatting to them for a while. I think a lot people are accepting bikes as part of the outdoors and don't have a problem with us going to places not really meant for bikes, but it only takes some bitter and twisted ramblers to cause trouble and put us back several years.
Nowadays we always hear about how the government want us to get healthy and take up cycling etc. and yet more and more when I'm out on the cheeky trails I'm coming across new "NO CYCLING" signs and a lot of the time they're on paths that have never had them there before and are mostly very quiet and unused.

Hey Gus, loved your website. Some excellent photos...I have to take issue though with your comment that those kind of walkers are few and far between, in so far that the ramblers association have a powerful political voice! Isn't it about time we got a bit more organised to further our own legitimate goals? It seems that if we ride in a way that is respectful to walkers and landowners there should be no need for conflict. I make these comments as someone who enjoys both riding and walking! Any ideas?

Fair point Jon, I did mean walkers as in people who go for a walk in a less serious way than a Rambler, true ramblers can be a pain in the arse but even then I have had a good amount of encounters with them.
Over all my 23 mtbing years I can honestly say that I have had only few bad run ins with walkers and most of the bad encounters were with the red sock rambler variety who make a point of showing their contempt for bikes.
Of course there will be some of us who have a lot of trouble with walkers/ramblers, others who have very little or no trouble, luckily I have had very little when I consider how much riding I've done over the years.

i have signed the e-petition for the MTB access (through Gus's Site, nice site by the way). Looking at the figures the number of signees is not great. Fairly straight forward to fill out too just really need more people to sign.
The one Meirion has posted is for Wales only and if goes ahead is good news for all of us on here.(especially me as i do tend to get lost and end up where i shouldn't!!!) This active bill is being headed up by our local AM Carl Sargeant, the only downside is the white paper needs a little more work to fill out than the e-petition
Fingers crossed
