Hi, I have this evening noticed my middle chainring looks completely goosed! so have decided to order a new one...... i am a bit confused as to what to buy, my bike is a stumpy fsr comp 2011 and the chainring spec is listed as this on the spesh website.... 22A/33A/44A, 4-bolt, 104/64mm while looking at CRC there dont seem to be many 33tooth middle rings, also im not sure what will be compatible or not, (10 speed) was looking at these........ www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=54368my bike is....... www.specialized.com/gb/gb/bc/SBCProduct.jsp?arc=2011&spid=52821any advice appreciated! also notice there is way to much play in BB time to replace that to i guess

spesh website must be wrong, yours will be a 32 tooth, can't remember what cranks you've got but the new hollowtech 2 ones use a slightly different ring, obviously shimano will fit, raceface do an S version for shimano's new stuff too. (i've had great results in the past with raceface rings. seems like ok prices on 10spd middle rings here www.dalesbikedoctor.co.uk/category/shimano_32t_chainrings

bizarre never heard of shimano using an odd tooth count on there chainsets, they've always been 22,32,44 or the new dynasys stuff is 24,34,42 (bit of a switch around there.
i'd stick 22,32,44 it's the normal range, not sure how your front mech will handle a 12t jump from small to middle, they usually only see a 10t jump, 34T would likely work but would you like to spend £30 finding out?

Jon, if you hardly ever use the big ring I'd go for a Shimano SLX double and bash 22/36. I have bought 2 now and got them on both bikes and a bargain for @ £100 complete with BB. The cranks are super stiff and reguarded as bombproof (they have a tougher crank spindle than the SLX tripple chainset)
As for handling a 12t jump as you can see this is a 14t jump and it shifts super smooth on my Yeti. All you have to remember to do is re-adjust your front mech stop screw to stop it moving to the big ring.
I've never once missed the 44 as 36/11 is pretty massive gear TBH and during the CYB gravity enduro which had some flat out downhill fireroads the 36 was easily enough.

Oh I so wish I knew what you lot were going on about. It's like trying to explain to me the how a man's mind work..... I can sit and look interested but actually I'll never get it Don't you just take it to the bike shop, flutter your eyelids and pay out huge amounts of money to get it fixed? Hmmm maybe I'm fluttering the wrong body parts

Bit surprised you've killed a chainring already on a 2011 bike! Either loads of miles or how often do you change the chain?
My full suss does about 1500 miles a year and I'd reckon on 2 to 3 chains to get through the year but never bought a new chainring

i would swap to something a bit more common though, the SRAM gear on there was made special for specialized hence it's difficulty in finding rings (and only in steel!!!! ). shimano, raceface, truvativ all good Don't you just take it to the bike shop, flutter your eyelids and pay out huge amounts of money to get it fixed? Hmmm maybe I'm fluttering the wrong body parts BIKE SHOP, BIKE SHOP non of my bikes have ever been touched by another's hands. but then neither have my cars seen the inside of a garage to be honest. in built family skills for fixing things.

Cheers iggy, I will look into them, indeed it is not to often that I use the big ring so maybe it is the way to go! And I am not overly impressed with these gxp bottom brackets either do a switch may be the answer, will have a look when I get home, where are they 100 quid? Crc? Cheers Jon

Rupert, I have never changed the chain. It's only about 7months old,Kmc chain and I've had no problems untill last night when I went out and may chain slipped an snapped, repaired the chain and noticed the chainring was a bit messy!!!!! Also noticed play in the bb! I'm a big guy (that's what the wife says ) and I'm not exactly easy on The bb so I'm not totally surprised, the chainring I am a bit shocked at and don't really know how it has happened as I've not really had any issues with it untill last night!!! Mike, thanks for the links mike, had a look at the chainring and whilst cheap enough I don't really want to stick a big heavy steel one on there! I think I might just go with the 2x10 option that iggy suggested

I assume that 2x10 you linked to is suitable for a 10 speed chain ?
