Hi Guys, I'm just after a bit of advice. I have Avid Juicy 4's and the pads on the front one seem to be touching the rime of my wheel, I've taken the wheel off and made sure the pads aren't sticking together (which theyre not). I cant see that there is anyway of adjusting the braked alignment either. Can anyone offer any advice on how I can rectify this please? Also, is there a way of bleeding your brakes without a bleed kit? or is it best I purchase a kit in order to do it?

Are you sure they are Juicy 4s and are you sure they brake on the rim of the wheel? (not onto a rotor?) Does one side rub or is it both sides? If they are like my Juicys the pistons should self centre and adjust but as they get old they start to stick a bit. New pistons/seals will make it a bit better. You need a bleed kit to bleed them but you can get non Avid ones which are cheaper and do the job but don't include some of the spacer blocks etc. Riding with the brakes on makes you a stronger rider anyway

ye the rotor, thats what I meant . Ye theyre definatley Juicy 4 rsl's they're on a 2009 Rockhopper expert. tbh, i have barely used my bike up until recently so they're pretty much like new. It looks as though the angle of the pads is slightly off and the rotor rubs the top of the pads as it passes through. As you can tell I'm pretty much a novice, I might just call into my local bike shop and see if they can shed any light on it, I just wanted to try sort it myself. As for riding with brakes on, ye, they seemed to start catching about 5 miles from home last night and my legs feel like they've had a little extra punishment today

Warped rotor, watch it run thru the caliper as you spin the wheel does it move side to side? If so you can tweek the tangs either side of the warped bit with a pair of long pliers to straighten it out a bit.
Pistons need re-setting, if the above is not the case take the wheel off and force the pads apart with a PLASTIC tyre lever, re-fit the wheel, pull lever a couple of times.
Caliper out of adjustment/sticky piston, look at pistons is one more out than another? Try the above it might free it otherwise, loosen caliper bolts pull and hold lever to adjust caliper and re-tighten bolts.
Air in the system, quite common with Avids never seen a set yet that hasn't needed a good bleed when they come from the factory.

Thanks for the advice guys. I've already reset the pistons, but on taking a closer look, it appears the rotor may well be slightly warped. I'll pick up a bleeding kit this weekend to as they definately need doing. Once again thanks for your help
