Just heard about this, it's a bit steep to enter but the draw is that the roads are going to be closed I think. www.etape-cymru.co.uk/

That Horseshoe Pass challenge looks like it works exactly the same way as the MBNW willy wave ;D I did it in 8 minutes last night And some of the etape route looks 'interesting'. The councils had better start filling potholes and putting tarmac that gravel track that goes to Llandegla ;D

Good point Thistle. They aren't going to have a timekeeper there start and finish whenever there's a rider . Really open to abuse. Will have to read the small print. Incidently my time as a 65yr old was 15mins 26secs. my lungs were in my mouth

I've entered this. £65 is very steep, but you do get a free gillet . Apparently its a closed road event so should be pretty unique.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead butI'm doing this for the Wrexham Supporters trust, there are/were also 80 free places if you raise £200 sponsorship for Hope House.

I'm doing to give myself a kick up the arse fitness wise Ady. Been training about 3 weeks now, lost half a stone and noticed a good improovment in climbing and endurance. Still slow but will be taking lights to make sure I can plod round to the finish at my own pace whatever time that may be.

Nice one, two good causes there. I'm well up for the ride but for some reason can't seem to navigate the entry form on the website correctly... assuming I get a place i'm well keen on this. Anyone ridden the full route yet?

Done all the seperate climbs at one time or another. Off to have another look at the shelf before work tomorrow as I've only ridden it once 20 or so years ago and I can't quite remember how steep it is. The Garth comes early enough that I'll have good legs as does the climb up to Worlds End and the climb through Bwlchgwyn. The next proper climb is from Bryneglwys up onto Llantisillio Mtn which I think I may struggle with, I'm not worried about the Horseshoe pass as it's pretty gradual apart from a couple of short kicks near the bottom and then again on the bends before it eases off. Then comes the Shelf which all I can seem to remember is the views rather than how steep it is. That just leaves the Shelf and the short climb up to the reservoir immediately before Penycae which I know is going to hurt but is close enough to the finish to slug it out.

;)The climb from Bryneglwys isn't that bad; the descent into Glyndyffrdwy is very steep What I remember of the Shelf is it is 25% in places and i used my granny ring Good luck!! it will be a climbers paradise ;D
