www.wildwaleschallenge.com/TheEvent.htmlHad a great time on this event last year was tough but felt quite an achievment on completion, just noticed that there is a prize for the club that has the most finishers

May have a go at this me too, but need to buy a road bike You'd be surprised how many people tackle this on a mountain bike with slicks. There are ALWAYS some chuffing big hills and the lower gearing can come in very handy if you're hitting one of them with 60 or 70 miles in your legs!! It's a great day out on the bike and you'll see everyone from the seven stone racing snakes on their carbon superbikes to Fred and Jean on their matching 1970's tourers with panniers, thermos and a bundle of sarnies. I used to do a lot of road events and in terms of atmosphere, challenge, route and cost the Wild Wales is definately one of the best.

Anyone done the Bwlch y Groes climb? I've done the Bwlch Hirnant climb out of Bala/ Aberhirnant to Llyn Fyrnwy and that was a bit of a grind! How do they compare with each other??

Anyone done the Bwlch y Groes climb? I've done the Bwlch Hirnant climb out of Bala/ Aberhirnant to Llyn Fyrnwy and that was a bit of a grind! How do they compare with each other?? Bwlch y Groes is an absolute bitch of a climb!!! I've tackled it three times. Once on a previous Wild Wales, once on the Dave Lloyd Mega and once on a Sunday coz I felt like it.......I must have been doo-flippin-lally!! It's steep, long, exposed and has a false summit that get's you every time. Thankfully the turn off for Lake Vyrnwy is below the summit. Saying that, a few lads on the Dave Lloyd went up to the top and back down to the turn off so they could say they'd done it all!! On the flip side....it's a beautiful stretch of road and the pain is only temporary I have to wait and see what shifts the wife is doing but if I can get away for the day I will. When I was more of a roadie the Wild Wales was the highlight of the summer.
