How did the lucky members who got an entry get on?? Well.... the weather Gods were kind and the rain just about held off all day The ride started off with around 250 of us at a great avg pace of @ 20mph for the 1st 15miles and had me shouting encouragement at Trace & Lisa Price to stay in the pack, it's almost impossible to ride a sportive as a group and we lost touch with Sally, Gill, Ponti & Margaret pretty early on. We were flying along through Delamere Forest with a tailwind and arrived at the Eureka Cafe for the feed stop in 2h 02min for 36.5 miles which was pretty impressive. After a 30min stop for tea and cake we set off Southbound for the 30 mile return leg into a strengthening headwind with just a few people for company. The 3 of us were soon alone for lengthy stretches with myself driving along at a steady 17-18mph before we started reeling in the odd person who just jumped on the back of the Iggy train We soon had quite a long line of wheelsuckers as we pounded on to the finish, Trace coming through & off to help when needed and 300m from the line a couple of blokes who had enjoyed our pacemaking thought they'd try and sprint past us........ they were soon denied their unsporting glory with a balls out last 150m from yours truly which earn't me a big thanks and shake of the hands from someone who'd hung on the back for the last 15 miles. 67 miles/ 108km in 3hr 56min at an avg of 17.1mph which we were all well chuffed with as there were only about 30 people finished before us out of 250 ;D Both girls earning a hatfull of 'queen of the mountains' segments on Strava Got to say I was so impressed with Trace & Lisa's stamina and speed, I tried to make them feel like we were in a bit of a road race and they dug in like real pro's as we drove on the last hour like a train. The best thing for me was riding the last 30 miles on the front into a headwind with my MBNW freeride top and baggie shorts on pulling in flagging lycra clad roadies and spitting them out the back of the train, great fun. Bonus was Trace winning a T-shirt at the end for her efforts Route info here app.strava.com/rides/10149440

Well done to all those who took part, its never fun riding into a headwind especially for 30 miles.
Glad the weather turned out nowhere near as bad as forecast!

Gill and I completed the first section with an average of 16.7 but the long wait for tea and cakes resulted in a long ride with just the two of us trying to find a group to join into a headwind, we did catch one though , but at 50 miles my knee did an exploding thing due to a wrongly fitted cleat, so we slowed down a bit which resulted in our average speed going down to 14.9- still pretty good for 2 first timers and one going lame for the last 16 miles great day , thanks Gill- really enjoyed it ;D
