As with previous years Evolution bikes of Bangor are sponsoring this years North Wales Cyclocross Winter Series. These are great events to keep up your fitness over the winter in a competitive but friendly atmosphere. The series is held in various locations across the region, so there's bound to be one near you. I'm not too sure of the cost yet, but from memory they were in the region of £5 a race. I know a few people from here have taken part in this series in the past, myself included, and I know of a few who are thinking of giving this series a go. You don't need a cyclocross bike to take part as there are a good few people who do the races on mountain bikes. I found the events well organised and very welcoming, regardless of whether you turned up on a CX bike or mountain bike. This is the dates and venues for the race series for the 2012/13 league. Out of the 12 planned events, 10 races will qualify for the title series.. Race 1 7th October Glynllifon Country Parc Caernarfon Gwynedd Race 2 21st October 2012 Bethesda Sportsd Centre Gwynedd Race 3 4th November 2012 Amlwch Port Ynys Mon Race 4 18th November 2012 Lead Mines Park Wrexham Race 5 25th November 2012 Errddig Country Estate Wrexham Race 6 16th December 2012 Marsh Tracks Rhyl Clwyd Race 7 23rd December 2012 Glynllifon Country Parc Caernarfon Race 8 30th December 2012 Bethesda Sports Centre Gwynedd Race 9 6th January 2013 Pwllheli Gwynedd Race 10 20th January 2013 Prestatyn Clwyd Race 11 3rd Febuary 2013 Alyn Waters Wrexham Race 12 17th Febuary 2013 Bethesda Sports Centre Gwynedd Final race and presentations.. Please remember NO spare bikes !! Start and finish on the same frameset please !! I'll post up more information as and when I receive any

I've wanted to have a go at some of these but I've always found it hard to find out the details, like what time it starts and how long they are. I don't fancy driving all the way to Caernarfon for half an hours riding 3 in Wrexham though and I could ride to the start :-D

If I remember rightly the started around 12ish and were usually done over an hour plus 1 lap. But as I say, I'll find out and post it up

Latest update from the North Wales Cyclo Cross site - "Well its arrived, the first race of the winter league.. ~Venue is Glynllifon Country Parc, LLanwnda Caernarfon LL54 5DY.. start time 12noon for the under 12's. I went to Glynllifon today and the course is fairly DRY !!!, no worse than normal even after all the rain.. Weather forcast is good for the weekend.. While the U-12 course is just the same, the course has changed for the main event. Due to heavy logging on the top part of the course, where the 2 way section is, this is more running than riding this time, not a problem for all you 3 Peak's guys & ladies.. Also we have been given permission to extend the course at the bottom of the steep decent so we go further up the river.. Please note that there are 2 sections of steps at the end of the path that we need to go down to reach the bottom track that returns to the finish. YOU ARE NOT ALLOWED TO RIDE DOWN THESE STEPS !! Please get off at the 'Dismount' sign and get back on by the steel bridge. ANY RIDER WHO ATTEMPTS TO RIDE DOWN THESE STEPS IN THE WARM UP OR DURING THE RACE WILL BE DISQUALIFIED FROM THE EVENT.. Anyone who has not ridden one of our races before needs to fill in a day membership form, this covers you for any future races. The cafe will be open from 10am with great food - cakes - drinks... Please follow the signs to park in the main carpark , not in the College Car Park" I was hoping to do this but something else has cropped up that I just could not refuse, so it looks like I may have to try and do the next one instead. A pity really as this race is a cracking route Good luck to Megan Woodward, and anyone else taking part. Let us know how it goes

Hi i'm looking to sponser a rider for this series. Man or women.
The type of person i'm looking for must be able to make it to every event and be willing to wear my team t shirt.
I will sponser you by maintaining your bike i.e after race clean up and pre race setup. excluding any parts needed (for now).
preferably someone living in the mynydd llandygai area.
please contact me if interested on 07739643872. Thanks Alex

Thanks Alex Alex, Your best bet is to place this notice on the North Wales Cyclocross page as you're more likely to get someone to take you up on your offer. The few people on here that may do this event will be people just trying to keep their fitness over the winter months. They probably won't be able to compete in every race due to other commitments. There's a link to their site in this thread. Good luck

Thanks for the heads up Good luck to those racing. Cyclocross had to be one of the hardest types of racing i've ever competed in. Still, may have a go in this series myself

Round 4 of the North Wales Cyclocross League will take place on Sunday 18th November at the historic site of Minera Lead Mines (Pyllau Plwm Mwynglawdd). Mined for lead and zinc since the Roman invasion, the former spoil tips of the past have been transformed into a lovely country park in more recent times, perfect for the winter sport of cyclocross.
Racing will take place under the restored Meadow Shaft engine house and chimney, commencing at 12 noon for the under 12's and followed by the senior race (including the under 16's category).
Directions to the Park are --- Leave A483 taking A525 signposted Ruthin. At Coedpoeth, opposite the Five Crosses Pub take B5426 (Minera Hall Road) signposted Minera and follow this road for just over one mile until you reach the site entrance and car park on the right. Look out for brown signs marked Pyllau Plwm Lead Mines.
And as I now have a CX bike, it would be a pity not to give it a go ;D
