If it doesn't coincide with another race I've entered I may well enter, I can't be entering if I have something else on, that would mean I would have to pull out and I couldn't face the humiliation sounds good that Oggy!
Life's journey is not to arrive at the grave safely i a well preserved body... but to skid in sideways, totally knackered and worn out shouting....Holy shit!...WHAT A RIDE!!
Whatever. There's more important things in my life than just riding a bike, it just fits in if convenient and at the moment having central heating is just a bit more important than a £30 bike event! I just do it for the craic and can't be arsed riding in crap weather if I don't need to, especially if it's training to do averagely well in an etape, If I ever want go out winning events and add to my trophy haul, I'll just stop turning down offers to do rallies and go pot hunting again, but really I've nothing to prove, been there done it. So chill and go with the flow, life's too short boys!
Well even after a week of R. I. C. E my knee still looks like a water melon, however done a 15 on the new bike today and no pain, so following Geraints fine example, I shall be maning the F*ck up tomorrow and trying to put a time in. Im planning to ride around 08:30 ish on Black start but will have to manage knee a little, might catch some of you on course, have agood one
Hot, hot hot day today. Calculated that I drank 5 litres of fluids and 9 gels, so no sleep tonight methinks, due to being totally wired. I managed it in 7hrs 50 something so the training rides I've done since Etape Eryri really paid off (Cannock Chase 25k and a 20 miler down Lon Eifion from Caernarfon to Bryncir and back! ) Dead happy! Got a medal for that MowCop hill and cycled over 100 miles, which is a first for me. Up until today Etape Eryri Ganol was the most milage I'd done at 76 miles. Good to see Oggy and Dan B at the finish! Roll on Etape Mercia Aug 18. Thanks Gwyneth & Mablefor letting me stay over last night it was very much appreciated!
It was hot indeed, well done to all the MBNW riders some good times went in from everyone. Myself and Oggy decided to throw a few extra miles in as we thought it wasn't challenging enough we did another 3-4 miles before we realised that we were off course, Id just like to add that we were not by ourselves
Despite this little detour we still managed to get a reasonable time in, my knee just about held out but was hurting by the time I had dispatched Hart Hill, thankfully it was flat then to the finish. The finish was a bit of a fiasco, the last thing you want to do after being on the bike for 7hrs is queue up in the scorching heat
All in all it was quite a chilled day out on the bike, had a good chat with Jess up to the 76 split, then met Punk on Welsh Row in Nantwich, good to see Si Moult at the finish (hope your brother is okay, big off!) Well done to Big Phil, very cautious at first, then we flew up Mow Cop together and off he went, I then took the wrong turn and didn't see him again all day. Must of put a good turn in as he put a 1hr into me by the finish, great effort
IF A MOUNTAIN BIKER CRASHES IN THE FOREST....AND NO-ONE IS AROUND TO SEE IT.....IS HE STILL A CRAP RIDER?
