If you are sticking to man made trail centres, mud isn't really an issue. I use 2.25 nobby nics all year round, but its your personal preference, as long as they are reasonably nobbly/grippy they'll be fine.
Make sure you have a few layers of clothing for our January weather.

Hi Choko, what on earth are you doing coming to the uk in January? you know that's winter here? haha On a 160mm full sus I run 2.5 st minion front and 2.4 high roller copy rear that works great on the steeper natural stuff or antur stiniog or revolution on a dry day but you will find that overkill at coed y brenin, penmachno, marin, climax ... for trail center riding I like the maxxis advantage but that wtb tyre looks pretty good, i just bought one to try it

haha yes I know its winter, but its going to be 40+ at home in our summer so Id prefer the cold over that! I reckon ill just run those WTB viglantes 2.3 front and rear for my trip, I dont really want to sacrifice grip on the rear and they really are a great tyre. I will be in the UK visiting family for xmas so we are taking a trip over to wales to do a bit of riding and just relax in general. I read back through my thread and it sounds like staying in or near betws rather than dollgelau might be the best option still. Especially considering this time we will be bringing the family with us so a few kids and oldies that won't be ripping up trails all day Keen to hear your local opinions too ? Was just trying to find info on the trails close to betws, it seems there are a few areas but some of them dont have maps. Is there a good summary of the trails in that area somwhere that I have simply missed? thanks for all your help guys.
