Tapered forks - I'm assuming this means the steerer tube - is that the case?
If so, I think my current forks have parallel steerer tube. Does this mean I have to find parallel steerer tube forks as replacements, or do I need a new headset that has a smaller diameter bearing at the top compared to the lower bearing?
Thanks

hi yes it does mean the steerer tube, they tend to be 1.1/8 1.5 or taperd . the taperd forks are 1.18 runing in to 1.5 at the bottom. the head tube needs to be able to accomadate 1.5 for taperd forks which i think most recent bikes are naw. hope this helps

Thanks very much andyt.
My frame's from 2005 and the fork appears to have parallel sided 1 1/8" steerer tube - best to find a parallel replacement.
With this and the 26" wheels, I'm beginning to feel distinctly old hat!

With this and the 26" wheels, I'm beginning to feel distinctly old hat! Im sure that is what most company's are trying to achieve and make us think we need new bikes instead of upgrading.

Superstar does a headset that lets you run tapered forks in a zero stack/internal 44mmID headtube. Lower bearing sits outside the headtube so does increase axle to crown/slacken off the head angle but that's not necessarily a bad thing if you have an older/steeper frame. superstar.tibolts.co.uk/product_info.php?cPath=25&products_id=539You can also get an extra oversize crown race to run standard 1.1/8th fork in the same headset.
