Well that was a tough 62 miles, although once at the top, the hills had a bark worse than their bite, except the Crimea in a headwind which was a bit gruelling! We flew up the Rhyd hill no doubt helped by my pre event Gatorade concoction and had a blast on the descent, the other side. Pee pee stop in Beddgelert before the climb via Rhyd Ddu/ Waunfawr and over Ceunant to Cwm y Glo to the check point by Llyn Padarn. Climbed then over the hill to Pentir then turned right to Tregarth, bypassing Bethesda, where we were passed by a Rhos on Sea pelaton of about 8 going like a train! The Nant Ffrancon climb to Ogwen was a toughy in a strong headwind, before a flat out drop down the A5 where I had to pass two cars on the Ugly House bends on the outside, bloody tourists! We visited another checkpoint at the Cotswold store, then turned right on to the minor road to miss out Waterloo bridge. Got to the give way, when cramp started to hit on the climb to Dolwyddelan. Getting half a drinks bottle of electrlytes sorted it out by Dolwyddelan, where we stopped for a 3 minute breather, before tackling the Crimea Pass with the wind in our faces! Ben did a 4hrs 55 while I was around 5 hours 10 minutes. Etape Eryri next!

Sounds like you had a good ride, and in the reverse direction compared to last year for a bit of variety. I was almost tempted yesterday morning in order to add to my collection of slate coasters, but after 5 days back to back MTB I think my legs would have had other ideas.

The Etape Eryri also does some nice slate coasters!
