It all really depends on want you are using it for, are you going to use it for enjoying a nice ride, commuting? Triple is fine but if you wish to improve your fitness and power it will stop you from finding that easy gear and jibbing out. I much prefer the double but it's all personal preference

54/42 x 23/11 for me, I like to go really fast, on the flat, downhill or I love my 54t up to pen y pass, yeah big power in the big ring, little gears make you weak, all my chicks use 50/34

Agree, when you hammer that big ring you just shoot off, leaving an immense grin on your face

yeah it would be my first roadbike, and just a way to get a few easier miles in than on the mtb each night! as far as spending goes, I guess I want to keep it under a grand really, 800 would be a good point looked at the canyon roadlite al 6.0 but to be honest prefer to get something from a dealer on home turf in case of any warrenty issues, don't fancy having to deal direct with a german suppler in the event of any troubles I wouldn't worry about that. They have an office in Kingston on Thames and a phone number that they answer. Dealt with them recently over a warranty claim (front derallieur on mtb) and couldn't fault them. Better off dealing with the organ grinder rather than the monkey...I often find the dealer is the issue

Going to see if I can try a couple out, bit of extra gearing probably would be a blessing at times, but I don't wanna be no girl :LOL

It has to be a compact my friend, triple's are for really sad and fat people who eat too much and don't train properly but spend too much time in front of a computer telling people how slow they really are! Phew! so glad i have a compact .......and i'm a girl
