Well it was that time of year again for me to be given a few days off from the family and to go out riding bikes. This year I picked Scotland (again) but this time a little further afield, the Outer Hebrides!
After travelling to Mallaig with my old fella we caught the ferry to South Uist. Now this was after passing the Isle of Skye, Eigg, Rum & Canna, a very spectacular crossing in the evening sun. The expectations for the week ahead were looking good given that the views were good and a pod of dolphins following the ships wake!
so after riding for only 5 miles I found a good spot to set up the tent as the sun was setting in the clear skies. Sunday saw me ride the beaches and roads of South Uist, Benbecula and North Uist. A total of 66 miles on a fully loaded fat bike weighing in at 75lbs!! The weather was fine with just enough had wind to make a difference. Again another wild camp spot not far from the ferry to the Isle of Harris. As I was sat eating my mussels and swigging my vin rouge a couple of eagles flew overhead, awesome!
Up early for the 7:15 ferry which saw the sun shining once again as I took in the fantastic beaches of Harris. Then I took the old postmans path to Rhenigidale were again eagles flew. The track to the hostel was something else, very steep with majestic views down to the loch below which had seals swimming in it.
Next day was a tough one as it was a head wind and I had over 60 miles on the road to do. However I knew the reward was at the end as this was the main reason for the trip, that stone bothy I'd seen in Alistair Humphrey's Bothy video from last year. Anyway not a lot of you are probably reading this at this point so its time for some photo's as the next couple of days were just as awesome as the rest!!
I'll post the video link in a couple of days time
