I go up there a lot, Its just behind me in Pen, theres some cracking trails and some lovely flowing downhill sections, Instead of turning right at the Drum have you gone down to Aber? Brilliant downhill, quick and a bit of a but clencher on the loose gravel ;D ;D

The trails up there give you everything that the man made trail centres do, I will never get bored of the roman road, thats where it all started for me. Aber to Rowen and vice versa.
You get up there often?

The guy going up drum it takes approx 1/2 hour to climb drum from the crossroads on the roman road the downhill from the cairn is best if you just head straight down the side towards the resevouir tricky in places did a superman impression once coming down hit clump of gorse!! the fire road from the resevouir is awsome very quick loose potholes and a few yumps well worth the effort the trail back down drum is one to do aswell big boneshacker even on full sus glad to get to the crossroads and head to llanfair which is a very fast section if it is only a few minutes long takes 2 hours to go from dwygy up the pass upto tal-y-fan over to the roman road down into llanfair and back to pen but you are right so many different trails to explore up there you never get bored

Me and my mate rode this area last week and did a fantastic ride, only 27 kms but pretty gruelling due to the hill climbs, in fact one of the road climbs is the steepest we've ever done !! basically the ride starts in car park by the lake on Sychnant pass, ride past the lake straight on past farm and tech downhill joins the yellow classified road south to Rowen. Stay on road to T jcn turn right. continue to follow the signs up lanes to little old chapel at Garnedd Wen. On right of chapel is a nice single track decent into a gnarly steep decent(black run )through Parc mawr wood. Join lane again down to lane turn right and continue to T junction. Turn right and it's granny ring and burst lungs for about a mile getting steeper as you go, up to Rhiw and the youth hostel. Straight on from here through a number of field gates to join the road which if you turn right leads to the Roman Rd car park. Along roman road to drum turn off but take right down into Llanfairfechan. When you reach the lane turn right then over bridge and right again to start climbing again up Newry Drive. Bear left at top of road climb and right at big house (sign posted here tfor N Wales Path) Follow NW Path up behind quarries. Once it levels out stay on the path past some sets of stone circles, through a couple of new galvanised kissing gates and the choice of decents back is either stay on the NW Path which will bring you out at Echo Rock car park, or bear right just after second galv gate , over style, cross little bridge and join the Tal y Fan quarry decent back to lake car park. Took us 3 and a half hours with short banana stop. Knackered but grinning from ear to ear. The ride is shown in the Biketrax book as well, but is easy to follow on a 25,000 scale map. Try it u won't be disappointed !!!
