When it comes to road bikes, I know some of you out there can talk the talk. How do I know this ?
Because I see a few people posting up telling us either how good they are, or how they've been out all day banging in the miles.
However, can you walk the walk ?
One way of finding out is to race. However, this can be a bit nerve racking if you're not used to riding elbow to elbow trying to get past the guy in front.
However, there is another way - Time Trials
Just you, your weapon of choice and a stopwatch. No mucking about with trying to barge past other riders, no looking over your shoulder to see who's making a break for it. And there's no need for one of those fancy bikes with those funny bars, just an everyday road bike will do. Setting off at one minute intervals, you'll have someone in front of you to try and chase down while at the same time, there's a rider behind you with you in his sights.
Luckily for us, there are a number of local cycling clubs that hold weekly time trials throughout the summer months. These are mostly held during the week and vary from 5 miles through to 25 miles. Any distances over 25 are usually done on a Sunday.
Below are links to the TT pages for the likes of Wrexham Fibrax, Rhyl CC and Rhos on Sea CC, so as you can see there's no excuse for not giving it a go. And as they don't start until April, there's plenty of time to get some training in. That's if you need it of course
Rhos on Sea Time Trials
Rhyl CC & VC Melyd Time trials
It doesn't look like both Chester CC & Wrexham Fibrax are yet to post up their calendar, but as soon as they do we'll put a link to them on here
