Been looking at getting a bash guard. I've read the thread on bash rings but still none the wiser! I'm after something that will fit over the outer chain ring without having to lose the outer ring. Something that will protect my leg from getting gashes from the chain ring teeth as well as protecting the chain ring! I'm not sure if anything like that exists? Can anyone recommend anything? (I'm not sure on the terminology so bear with me. I only know it's a bash guard after texting Hugzee to ask what the thingy over the cog thingy was!!) ;D Thanks

:-) you can get plastic ones that will help with the leg problem, but won t 100% protect your outer ring. But will do the job. Head down to your local bike shop to see what they have. Possibly halfords for something like this.

Caz, If it's just to protect the chainrings teeth and not your leg then MRP do bashguards for single ring and triple ring set-ups. In two sorts of mounts ISCG and bottom bracket. ISCG is something you'll find on a freeride/DH type of bike. www.mountainspeed.com/product.php?section=product&item=xcgThe bottom bracket mounting relies on the bike having an external bottom bracket (Shimano HTII) and replacing one of the spacers with the bash guard mount. If you want to protect your leg and keep the outer ring then you'll need something like the Blackspire Big Ring Protector in Metal or Plastic. www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=17281What a lot of people do is replace the outer chainring with a bashguard and then change the size of what was the middle ring from a 32 tooth up to say a 36 tooth to compensate for the loss of the gearing available on the big 44 tooth ring.

Thanks Gar & Russ.
JB - What about adapting a pizza tray??
I think I'll just stick to Russ & Gar's advice.
